Hello,

I am pretty new to this board and want to introduce my first self:

I am 26 years old, living in Germany (Cologne <-> Duisburg) and working for ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe as process control system developer.

I am currently developing some webbased stuff for VATSIM and for this I need some verification of VATSIM users who wants to register with the service. Is there a possibilty to remotely check ID/p[Mod - Happy Thoughts]word to be correct - without storing it somewhere else - or any other way? I doubt the public cert is enough for a user verification as the email can still be faked.

Hi Arne,

If you're not a webmaster for a Region or Division of VATSIM there's not an interface that would be available to you. If you're a webmaster of a Division/Region you need to contact either Jim Johnson or Terry Scanlan (can't remember which one off the top of my head) to gain access.

Regards,

A...

Hello Anthony,

thank you for the answer.

Unfortunately I am not a Division/Region Webmaster. Then I've to find another solution to verify it.

There's certainly a system available for you to validate that the ID provided matches the name and e-mail domain, just not the p[Mod - Happy Thoughts]word.

Cheers!

Using the public cert check?

I think that should be sufficient to verify.

You can verify an ID here:

http://cert.vatsim.net/vatsimnet/statcheck.html

And there is another link on this forum which allows a text version of this.

There isn't a way for non-division/regions to confirm the p[Mod - Happy Thoughts]word which is actually a pity. I would prefer unifying the access to our Portugal vACC portal instead of having users register again and create a new p[Mod - Happy Thoughts]word.

It would be great to have something like sending the p[Mod - Happy Thoughts]word in crypt-13 standard format and receiving a reply from a server if correct or incorrect, obviously with a max number of hits/minute to avoid bruteforce-guessing.

THIS would be really awesome to spare stripping the html code.
