What we believe makes a great event is flights out and in of a particular airport from every direction even mimicking real world flights. So, here is our proposal, we wish to make an impromptu flight on a Wednesday night starting at 6pm and lasting for two hours until 8pm. Using one airport as the focus. Why only one airport you may ask, well, the answer is that the network has anywhere from 300 - 800 flights going on average at any given moment. If you consider that real life the number is closer to 3 - 5 thousand you may quickly realize that our small percentage spread out across the entire surface of the globe makes it that each airport can expect just a handful of arrivals and departures. An interesting experience for both pilots and controllers would be one in which planes are Departing and arriving from a particular field like they do in real life.

We have experienced regarding events on the network is that a focus field is chosen on a Weekend and, that airport gets a significant increase in traffic. Most of this traffic is inbound and, in many occasions all coming from exactly the same airport. We think this is great fun as so many airplanes on the radio and you actually see traffic out side the window of the airplane. For controllers it is obviously more challenging as there are so many planes to look after. Yet, airports have both outgoing and incoming traffic and in these events incoming traffic usually trumps outgoing by a factor of 3 to 1. There is no need to argue with me about any of the statistics I have presented as this is our own personal observation, considering our flights have been limited to certain areas etc.. Yes, we do enjoy a challenge to a new area and seeing new things, flying different planes, and such. Yet, as time has p[Mod - Happy Thoughts]ed, we have found that focusing on one particular airplane, and a smaller amount of destinations has given us a better understanding and a more enjoyable experience of what it means to be a computer airliner pilot. Ultimately, to us, it doesn't really matter where or what you fly, but that you fly it to the best of your own ability. Each time we fly the same airplane to the same destinations we are finding our experience more and more skillful and therefore, more enjoyable. Someone mentioned flying outside of one's comfort zone in another thread and we agree this can challenge a pilot. For us however, it seems to help when we are not surprised by the way an autopilot reacts to commands nor trying to arrive at a hitherto unfamiliar way-point trying to calculate a proper decent. These skills when practiced repeatedly yield better results for us personally, and if we are flying a know practiced route, in an aircraft we are already familiar with, then, we can focus on other aspects of the flight considering weather, fuel consumption, air traffic control and other traffic around the airplane. Surely there are pilots here who can fly anything, anywhere, anytime with ease as they are experts, we consider ourselves, beginner level with some intermediate experience. So, for those pilots who share our views and all others as well, we wish to inaugurate this Wednesday night impromptu flight to give us as pilots and those who control a fun realistic experience. Without further adieu, here is the airport for next coming Wednesday.

It's La Guardia

La Guardia has two intersecting runways and flights take off and land on both at the same time, all the time. Usually one is for departures and one is for arrivals. There are many planes outbound and inbound to make it a stressful but exciting experience for controllers as there are two other major airports so near by that traffic must be constantly monitored. Also, La Guardia has two awesome published visual procedures one of which is the most commonly used arrival. There is also, free and payware scenery available for both fs2004 and fsx that is excellent. We don't know of any for xplane as that software is not in our repertoire. I did hear someone made an msfs scenery to xplane converter however. I can say I have personally flown into and out of La Guardia many times on the network both with and without atc and every time it's been a rewarding and fun time.

This date will be next coming Wednesday after work at 6pm Eastern Standard Time to 8pm. There are at least 100 outbound flights and 100 inbound real world flights scheduled during this time as can be seen on the world wide web.

So, just to review

Airport = La Guardia

Date = next Wednesday

Time = Local time 6pm to 8pm 23:00 - 01:00 z

Focus = Both Departures and arrivals

Please, don't everybody decide to fly into but not out of the airport as that will ruin the idea. We are hoping for a 50/50 ratio. To help in this decision we now list real world departures for this airport during the mentioned time as suggestions for pilots desiring to join us in this new endeavor. We will leave the arrivals off the list as they tend to manifest on the network by themselves.

from 6:00pm to 6:15pm there are about 15 real world departures from La Guardia

US Airways Express sends a CRJ to Charlotte one to Boston and they send a Dash 8 to Syracuse

Continental has a 737 going to Cleveland

United Express sends a regional jet to Buffalo and one to Richmond

Delta has an Airbus headed to Detroit and a 757 to Atlanta

Shuttle America is going to Chicago in an ERJ

American Airlines sends a 757 to Miami and they send a Maddog to Dallas

and both United Airlines and Southwest Airlines go to Chicago in an Airbus and a 737 respectively

from 6:15pm to 6:30pm Departures as follows

United Express sends two CRJs out one to Charlotte and another to Pittsburgh

Delta is heading to Minneapolis in an Airbus and also to Boston

American Eagle flies an ERJ to Charleston

JetBlue flies an Airbus to Fort Lauderdale

US Airways Express sends a Dash-8 to Philly

Air Canada Express goes to Toronto in an ERJ

Shuttle America sends two ERJs out one to Washington's National Airport and one to Indianapolis

From 6:30pm to 7:00pm here are some more flights out of LGA

American Eagle goes to Toronto in an ERJ and they send one to Minneapolis for good measure

AirTrain makes an appearance heading to Atlanta in their signature Boeing version of the Maddog and they fly a 737 to Milwaukee

American Airlines is flying to Chicago in a Maddog and also to Dallas

Delta sends a flight to Detroit, and a flight to Jacksonville using the Airbus, they fly a Maddog to Fort Lauderdale and a 757 goes back home to Atlanta

US Airways sends a rare Airbus 321 to Charlotte (I've flown this route, there is a paint at avsim for the fsx default A321 in US Airways colors and SB4's default vip models include an A321 in these colors, so you will be seen and heard if you choose this flight) They also fly a regular Airbus to Washington National

US Airways Express takes a Dash-8 to Portland Maine and an ERJ to Boston

Continental is off to Houston in a 737

7:00pm to 7:30pm shift starts here

United has two flights to Chicago using the Airbus

American Airlines sends Maddog to Nashville (that should be a fun flight)

Delta goes to Orlando in a 737, to Atlanta in a 757 and to Boston and New Orleans in Airbus's

American Eagle takes an ERJ to Columbus and one to Montreal

Southwest flies to Chicago Midway in a signature 737

Delta Express is going to Washington Dulles using a CRJ and another one goes to Cincinnati

US Airways Express heads to Charlotte and Pittsburgh in CRJs and to Roanoke and Philadelphia with Dash-8s

Air Canada sends an Airbus 320 to Toronto

Shuttle America takes an ERJ to Washington National, Columbus and Chicago

Last shift of the party starts at 7:30pm and ends at 8:00pm here are the flights

American Airlines Maddog's it to Chicago and 757s it to Miami

American Eagle goes to Motor City Detroit in an ERJ and also to Boston

Frontier Airlines Express sends a flight to Kansas city in an ERJ and regular Frontier sends an Airbus to Milwaukee

Air Canada Jazz sends a signature CRJ to Ottowa

US Airways goes to Washington National in an Airbus

We included here many real world flights so it should be very easy to find a flight that suits one's taste. Everything is represented here for a smaller airport like LGA. Of Course, Since La Guardia has been around for ages, and was New York's premier airport before JFK was completed, you will always feel at home flying historic birds like the DC3s 4s 6s and Connies.

The fact is, if you have read this far into this post, you know you want to do this. Let's enjoy what can be a great Wednesday after work experience at New York's La Guardia Airport.

Next Wednesday, 6pm to 8pm local time 23:00 - 01:00 z

Well, it was a great experience as usual, for your information movements at LGA were

up 500%

compared to last Wednesday at the same time frame. We have no way of confirming if this post had anything to do with the increase but even if none of the pilots knew about this, just putting it out there may have influenced something. So, thanks for being there NY en route controller and the other pilots who turned a vacant airport into a living playground, even if it was most likely just coincidental.

Here are two screen grabs from LGA at the time proposed.

This Air Canada pilot flew an E190, nice

deltava.jpg

This Delta pilot flew an Airbus 319 and also got to enjoy the visual approach

Thanks again

You can get great X-Plane scenery by city/region from Ted's Custom Scenery. Not an advertisement, it's all freeware. This guy is amazing, scenery for probably 50 cities. http://web.me.com/theosdavis/xpfiles/scenery/scenery.html
