Randy Tyndall 1087023 Posted November 23, 2010 at 05:31 AM Posted November 23, 2010 at 05:31 AM Tonight was a beautiful night to fly the Pacific Northwest and Canadian Rockies...if you like weather...Snow, Winds, Low Ceilings...anything you wanted was out there if you looked. Flying from Seattle to Kelowna, British Columbia in a Dash 8 I naturally entered YVR airspace. It was great and the controller for Vancouver Center did an excellent job. I wish I had thought to get his name because he was extremely helpful, giving me vectors in zero visibility until I dropped below the cloud deck, explaining how the ILS 16 Circle to Land 34 would work at Kelowna, pointing out where charts could be found. I had the CAP2 but couldn't find the approach he was referencing...turns out there really isn't a circle to land but yet there is...fly to CYLW - you'll figure it out. All that plus giving me the ILS Freq for both FS9 and FSX for Rwy 16, just everything he did to help get me on the ground, and that he did...and safely I might add. Whoever he was between 0300Z and 0430Z on the 23rd of November I thank you very much. I thought of posting this to the YVR Website, but I want everyone in VATSIM to know just how friendly Vancouver Airspace is. Many Thanks, and I'll be back. I hope others will join me. Randy Tyndall 1087023 Posted November 23, 2010 at 03:47 PM Author Posted November 23, 2010 at 03:47 PM Thanks for finding that, Miguel. I checked Stats page after I got off cause Center was off, too, by then and didn't see anyone listed as manning Center at the times I flew. Maybe I checked too soon. Anyway...... Thanks Bob, you saved the lives of 37 p[Mod - Happy Thoughts]engers and 3 aircrew... And Thanks to all at Vancouver FIR. Randy Tyndall 1087023 Posted November 23, 2010 at 07:43 PM Author Posted November 23, 2010 at 07:43 PM Okay, now I am confused because whoever was controlling me closed my flightplan at 0433 Zulu. I'll bet it was Eldon as Jordan mentioned in his post. He and I (Jordan) chatted on private channel today while flying and I am pretty sure now it was Eldon. Either way, Kudos to Vancouver FIR and Kudos to both Bob and Eldon and everyone. I'm a happy "flyer of Canadian airspace" because of them and those like them. Now if I could just get over to Moncton to see how my friend Mike is doing... Randy Tyndall - KBOI ZLA I-11/vACC Portugal P4 “A ship is always safe in the harbor. Robbie Nauffts 1045788 Posted November 24, 2010 at 03:36 AM Posted November 24, 2010 at 03:36 AM He is a great controller and will keep his airspace flying smoothly I'll have to get over there sometime “Aviation is not inherently dangerous, but it is terribly unforgiving.”
