out of memory error

I recently got a new laptop and installed FSX onto it of curse and downloaded all the aircraft and scenery I use in the Vintage Flight Group and then started doing my flights but almost every time I fly on it after about half an hour to 2 hours it frzees, I have to force quit out and it says error you have run out of memory. HOW DO I FIX THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

what else are you also running at the same time?

 

does it happen with addon aircraft or scenery? are these payware? if so which ones are they?

 

32 bit or 64 bit system?

I also run ventrilo our comunication software, I have a nvidia graphics card, 64bit on Vista, It happens on default and addon scenery. As for weather or not it happens with default aircraft I dont know cause I hardely ever fly default aircraft.

if you have your sliders maxed out in your FS settings. turn them down to minimal and see if it happens again.

 

if it doesnt, then youll have to play with the sliders and find your best settings for performance.

 

if it does, then the issue is somewhere else

Also check to make sure your laptop is not getting excessively heated up. Have it near a fan or have one of those thingamajingies that go under the laptop and have two fans...i think laptop cooling pads or sumthin!! I have had both OOM and blue screens because of heat.

Different settings seemed to help a little but it still does it some times. I've also noticed a new problem were after a while my guages freez and don't move or do anything no matter what I do. This seems to happen on addon and default aircraft. The heat thing might be a problem too because it does have a tendency to get quite hot. I'll try cooling it down. Would this also cause the guages to freez though?

if its the pitot freezing, yep. no flow = no readings on the gauges.

 

as far as the crashing, check the event log when it happens. more then likely your PC is having trouble running the program. youll either have to do an upgrade or reduce the sliders even more.

 

heat will also cause it to crash. try checking the temp to see whats it at when it happens. if its overheating, youll definitely need to add extra cooling

I tryed keeping the laptop cool but that doesn't help and no matter what I do with the sliders it doesn't seem to help. I have also noticed that it takes a lot shorter of a time to get this error when I am using the PMDG 747-400 and PMDG MD11. I also changed my computers graphics to basic to see if that helps but it didn't. It's not the pitot tube either because I did a flight in the summer with 100 degre weather and pitot heat on and every thing still froze, and when it freezez FS doesn't respond to anything I try to do except ending the flight with the esc key.

It is interesting to note that you can still press the esc key to end the flight. I am not sure if you have tried this, but if not, do go through this patiently and you will see quite an improvement, not sure if it will also resolve the error, but it's worth the try:
