Sean Hatfield 1165048 Posted December 27, 2010 at 07:32 PM Posted December 27, 2010 at 07:32 PM My name is Sean. I'm a junior flight sim aviator looking to get into the real world once my financial situation levels out, and I'm looking to get some proper lessons (starting with basic VFR and working up) in the VATSIM network. I recently joined VATSIM and recently popped into a server to listen in on some radio chatter while sitting on the ramp at my home airport, Mt. Comfort (KMQJ). As I evesdroped on communications, it became slightly overwhelming for me. So I've come here to see if anyone would be willing to fly with me around the Indianapolis (IND) area until I get comfortable with communicating with an actual person via ATC (I've been talking to a computer for the past few months and the prospect of an actual person somewhat frightens me). Some basic info on the equipment I have. I fly with a Saitek X52 joystick and throttle system (no rudder pedals at the moment), and my software includes REX for FS2004, Active Camera, and several A/C add-ons including the entire PMDG stable, the iFly 737ng series, PSS's 777 and 757 series, several g/a aircraft from Ceranado, and a good collection of a/c from Wilco/feelthere publishing. I kindly ask anyone who would be willing to help me out, to help me out. This is a little intimidating for me and until I get comfortable, I would like an instructor to fly with. If you would like to know anything about my current piloting experience, please feel free to ask.

Charan Kumar Posted December 28, 2010 at 07:50 PM Posted December 28, 2010 at 07:50 PM Hi Sean, there is pilot certification material on this website. You can go through the various ratings and see how it is done. They include full transcripts of pilot/controller comms and it will help a lot, it sure did for me and I am sure others who have taken will also attest to that. Then you can post specific qns to which ppl can answer!! When is your next Flight||VATSIM HitSquad Member, ZOA/ZAK/GANDER/P1
Hunter Belanger 1129358 Posted December 29, 2010 at 01:45 AM Posted December 29, 2010 at 01:45 AM Is sounds like you have a case of "mic fright" to me. Not to worry though this can be easilly cured with the right treatments. As long as you have read all the docomeents in the pilot resourse center especialy the ones on comunications and the one with the mock fligh script you should be fine. Do what I did and start out with just getting out there and flying a VFR traffic pattern at a controled airport and just get yoused to talking on the radio, then you can try some VFR and IFR flights. IF YOU ARE CONFUSED ASK!!! If you don't know what a controler means ask them and they will almost always help you depending on the traffic levels. Trust me it's not as complicated or overwelming as it seems when you just listen to the radio. Eventualy you will get into the fluid of things and it will become second nature to you. Chris Ostring 959620 Posted December 30, 2010 at 03:42 AM Posted December 30, 2010 at 03:42 AM Sean, My Name is Chris, I am a real life Certified Flight Instructor. I have instructed other people on VATSIM before and can help you out with anything you may need. I can get you connected to me via shared cockpit and then we can go on VATSIM together and fly, or just do some private multi-player sessions together to get you acclimated to flying on the network. I can teach you everything from the basic day one stuff, all the way through to being able to plan, file, fly and talk an IFR Flight. Message me if you want to talk about it. Brendan Lynch 1167842 Posted December 31, 2010 at 02:39 AM Posted December 31, 2010 at 02:39 AM Though my resume is somewhat limited, I'd be glad to provide [Mod - Happy Thoughts]istance. Another great option is to join an ATO. The two big ones are the Vatcan flight academy, what I'm using for P1, or the ZLA Pilot Cert Program, found here-http://www.vatcan.org/ato/register.php and here-http://pilotcerts.laartcc.org/page/Home.html
