Sean Hatfield 1165048 Posted January 3, 2011 at 08:18 PM Posted January 3, 2011 at 08:18 PM So I have some time under my belt now with VATSIM and the other night I got an idea, and I bet its been plugged before. But has anyone considered an Air Force One flight either cross-country or trans-continental? I've toyed around with the PMDG 744 for a while, got myself the repaint for AF1 and thought to myself, what if I could grab a couple pilots and controllers and see where it goes? Here's the full idea. Air Force One is manditory of course, then we also have 4-6 fighter escorts in either F/A-18's or F-16's. Now I'm not sure if they do this in the RW but also have a 20-50 mile no fly zone around AF1 while she's airborne. I'd like to hammer out a few details but I think it'd be pretty cool to do. Ernesto Alvarez 818262 Posted January 3, 2011 at 08:33 PM Posted January 3, 2011 at 08:33 PM might want to search "air force 1" in the forum and see the answers already given the way you have it, not goin to "fly" if you want to fly formation with some buddies, thatll work. dont expect any priority handling or no fly zones, etc.. tho

Still though, just tossing the idea out there. ^^;
Brendan Lynch 1167842 Posted January 3, 2011 at 09:41 PM Posted January 3, 2011 at 09:41 PM And Air Force One never flies with a fighter escort, the aircraft would have to fly too close for comfort in the eyes of the Secret Service. Not that this will change your mind, just throwing this out here. And Ernesto is 1000% right.

It's not that they never fly with an escort, it's just that they don't do it in the VATSIM sense of the "OMG! Let's do a formation flight! LOLZ!" Brendan Lynch 1167842 Posted January 3, 2011 at 10:25 PM Posted January 3, 2011 at 10:25 PM No, RW Air Force one doesn't, at least a fighter escort. It does fly with between 50 and 80 support aircraft, just none of those are fighter escorts. I read it, don't remember where, but it wasn't wikipedia, though it agrees. Brian Pryor 810138 Posted January 4, 2011 at 01:26 AM Posted January 4, 2011 at 01:26 AM POTUS usually doesn't have an active escort in the air. There are usually aircraft airborne to respond to any sort of threat but as far as formation it's not likely. On the ground there is usually a CAP airborne in the region when outside of DC. From my experience in media I can attest to hearing audio of interceptor aircraft (often USAF, one time a customs blackhawk helo) intercepting aircraft violating the TFR. This is what I am talking about. Having an escort does not mean they are flying along with Air Force One in a traditional sense. Sean Harrison Posted January 4, 2011 at 08:31 AM Posted January 4, 2011 at 08:31 AM Could be good, and maybe even have an AAR tanker tag along. Sean C1/O P3
Brendan Lynch 1167842 Posted January 5, 2011 at 02:34 AM Posted January 5, 2011 at 02:34 AM AAR would be a good idea, though I'm 90% sure its under vSOA regs. 1.06, B3. http://www.vatsim.net/index.php?eID=tx_nawsecuredl&u=0&file=fileadmin/docs/coc/vatsim_specialops.pdf&t=1294284530&hash=54ebb3ff49ea59c3129440da02f3162c
