Sunny Yue Hei Fok 829198 Posted January 9, 2011 at 07:31 AM Posted January 9, 2011 at 07:31 AM Dear all, Has anyone tried using a headset with a noise cancelling microphone with Euroscope? I am using a Plantronics .Audio 655 DSP headset and the squelch test always gives me a high setting. What can I do to improve the squelch? Thanks!! Cheerio, Sunny Y. H. Fok Sunny Y. H. Stephan Boerner 945550 Posted January 16, 2011 at 11:51 PM Posted January 16, 2011 at 11:51 PM Is just the squelch value high or do you have actual problems? I am using a Plantronics myself, and while the squelch is quite high (and higher than it used to be, maybe a driver problem?) the voice quality usually seems to be ok. Wycliffe Barrett Posted January 17, 2011 at 11:07 AM Posted January 17, 2011 at 11:07 AM I bought myself a Creative wireless headset, it cost £70, really good with astounding sound quality in the ears but the mic gain software for it is rubbish, whiilst its fantastic in Teamspeak, SKYPE, MSN etc it is terrible in Euroscope. Euroscope will not even recognise the mic being there. Almost everyone on Euroscope would say my readability was clear but just very quiet. I bought a new headset on the weekend (wired) for £7.99 and everybody can hear me no problem and I can hear them. The sound quality mighth not be as good as the Creative, but I can hear everybody reall clearly and all can hear me nice and loud. Seemples. Miguel Frias Posted January 17, 2011 at 02:43 PM Posted January 17, 2011 at 02:43 PM Configured a new controller's Euroscope the other day. His squelch was over 1000/2000. Even then quality is good/acceptable. So as Todor said, don't pay too much attention to the value. What you want is to ensure that it is readable. Sunny Yue Hei Fok 829198 Posted March 13, 2011 at 05:50 PM Author Posted March 13, 2011 at 05:50 PM Thanks for all your replies!! The squelch in Euroscope is rather high (600+) and when I do the 5 second talk test, it complains that there is too much background noise even when the room is quiet. When I'm controlling, some pilots complain that my transmissions are garbled, as if there's a lot of background noise. I wonder if Euroscope/Squawkbox is not designed to work well with the noise cancelling feature since noise cancelling automatically sends an inverse signal whenever it detects any noise in the room.
