Steve Foster 909749 Posted November 15, 2005 at 07:24 PM Posted November 15, 2005 at 07:24 PM (edited) I have noticed that FS9 is REAL slow starting . I unloaded FS and SB3, reloaded FS and tried it out. FS loads fine. Then I loaded SB and now FS9 takes forever to start up again. There appears to be a delay right after starting, no disk activity everything is quiet, then pop.. up it comes and all is well. After this LONG delay, FS runs fine. Seems like there is a delay in the middle of FS9 loading. I remember the old modules etc with the prior version of SB but none of this was loaded with SB3...? Anyone with similar problems ?? Jeffrey Scharpf 854798 Posted November 21, 2005 at 04:17 AM Posted November 21, 2005 at 04:17 AM I have the exact same problem and I have a pretty good system. It gets to the point where my game gets too slow to play after connecting with SB3. Haven't been able to play on VATSIM reliably since SB3. Never had problems with earlier SB versions. But this isn't the place for this post, so we'll have to head on over to the SB3 support area. Jeff
Steve Foster 909749 Posted November 26, 2005 at 11:00 PM Author Posted November 26, 2005 at 11:00 PM Jeff, Thanks for the reply. I am not sure this is really a SB3 issue. After FS9 loads I can connect with SB3 fine and all works. It is the FS9 loading process. It takes a long time to load and seems to have been after SB3 was loaded but really not sure about that. What happens is during the loading process (disk drive lites flickering etc.. it just pauses, like it is off in never never land but after about a minute it continues whatever it is doing and FS9 continues loading and goes to the FS startup screen. After I get things set up and start SB3 all is well.... Except.. IF I dare resize a FS9 window my sound STOPS until I reboot...that is on another thread above this one.... Other than all that ...all seems ok... whew ! SteveRF
Thomas Parker Posted December 15, 2005 at 10:24 PM Posted December 15, 2005 at 10:24 PM I've noticed the same problem with my machine. It was slow to load. Same symptoms. I uninstalled it in an effort to reinstall it on a separate drive. I then re-installed FS9. It loaded pretty quickly. Then SB3 slowed the load process again. I don't have the answer, but being a computer programmer, I have my suspicions. Usually, when software just sits there, it's been my experience that it's sitting there waiting on a network socket to time out. If I had to guess, I would put my money on the same thing happening here. It may be that SB3 is setting up its network connection stuff but not actually attempting to connect. Because it's simply a minor annoyance for me, I haven't made the effort to chase it down. Have you tried looking at the SB3 website? Tom
Donald Lewis 908604 Posted February 9, 2006 at 03:39 AM Posted February 9, 2006 at 03:39 AM I have the SAME EXACT thing ! I think I have found out what it is though ! For some reason I had the same problem one time when I had ALL of the PAI packages , Default Flights, and Military AI all at once. When I scaled this back I cured the problem. Later when I installed SB3 I noticed the same problem. I also noticed the amount of aircraft models in the VIP folder. It is my beleif that once you get to a certain amount of AC to list it begins to slow the pc , I could be wrong but this is what I have experianced. I run a 256mb NVidia Card on a 3.4 Gig Pentium with 1gig RAM
Paul Byrne Posted February 9, 2006 at 04:53 AM Posted February 9, 2006 at 04:53 AM Hi, Yeah, it's all the extra models that SB3 adds to your aircraft folder that slows the load up. I have an AMD64 3700+ with a 256Mb graphics card and 2Gb of RAM and it still takes about 1-2mins to load FS. Nature of the beast, I'm afraid. As regards SB3 slowing down FS9 to the point of it not being playable, what system do you have? It could just be that your system isn't fast enough to run FS9+SB3 together. For example, the computer I had before I upgraded was an AMD 1.4Ghz processor with 128Mb graphics and 1Gb of RAM. I would never have dreamed of using FS9+SB3 with this system as it would be way too slow, so I ran FS2002 with SB3 and I got ok results(average 20FPS). There are other possibilties for the slow performance, but lets start with the basics. Hope this helps. Cheers! Paul.
James Spivey 909919 Posted June 17, 2006 at 03:35 AM Posted June 17, 2006 at 03:35 AM Man! I thought it was only my computer and FS9 that was loading slow .Yours is doing just what mine is doing , its takes for ever to load up FS9 . I remember using the old version of Squawk Box and remember it never took that long to get FS2004 started up . Also I have notice when minizing my FS9 screen and then upon returning to full screen mode my FS2004 screen turns completely black and there no getting it back , I end up having to close out of FS9 all together . I thought maybe it was my other software causing all of this but now I think its this new Squawk Box causing it to turn black on me.
