Just a quick question for anyone out there. What are the procedures with VATSIM European controllers. I myself fly out of Coleman Barracks in Mannheim, Germany in the real world and their tower is controlled by American personnel. How does VATEUD handle American Air Fields? Are they just considered uncontrolled to them? Thanks for the help in advance.

I really don't have any VATSIM docs to back me up on this one.. but it really works on a geographical point of view.

(i.e Where is it located? Germany, so its vACC-SaG controllers who do it)

Its the same thing with French overseas territories (Guadeloupe etc.) In real life, its the French government, aviation authority etc. But on VATSIM, its purely VATCAR

Not 100% sure about your question though.....

Ok because i know the towers are manned 24/7 but when I called up CTR they told me only IFR, and when I was flying into Wiesbaden AAF they didn't act as tower. I think they treat them as an uncontrolled. I tried to ask the Center controller tonight but he was too busy. I will ask them the next time they are on. But thats guys that was a big help. I really do appreciate it!

No, they are not treated as uncontrolled airspace, they are just treated as every other TWR/airspace, but there are two factors that come into account.

1. CTR generally provides top-down cover as long as his workload allows it. If he is too busy, especially VFR might be refused if necessary. But that does not apply to military airfields only.

2. Unlike the civil airfields, charts and procedures are not (easily) available for all military airfields, and not every controller might have them available right away.

Concerning Wiesbaden this is inside EDDF APP airspace, so CTR would not be responsible if an APP is present.

Stephan thats for the help! I do have all the charts for the military bases I want to fly too since i use them in the real world. I just didn't understand what there SOP was regarding American Facilities. I know over in ZHU (Houston) we have special agreements with VUSAF to control air bases in our own country. Just wanted to clarify the subject. Again thank for all the help. Cant wait to continue my VFR flying in Germany!!!
