Hello,

Being not a whiz with a computer I am asking for some help/advice. I am running windows XP, use logitech speakers and just purchased logitech 250 usb headset and mic. When I plug the headset into the computer it works fine except all sound stops in the speakers. Is it possible to configure some settings where the sounds (engine etc) continue with the speakers and the headset quiet except when talking to ATC or another pilot?? Help will be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Larry Reeves

Hi Larry,

What happens is when you plugged in your USB headset, XP changes that to your default sound device. What you need to do is change your default sound output your onboard sound card.

Open Control panel, select Sounds & Audio Devices, open the Audio Tab and change the default output to your sound card instead of your headset. This will again route all sounds to your speakers.

Now to use your headset for listening/talking to ATC, (Im [Mod - Happy Thoughts]uming your using Squawkbox 3) startup FS, then open Squawkbox, and from the sounds menu (I believe) change the settings to use your headset, and bingo! your FS sounds (engines, cockpit sounds, etc) will go to your speakers, and ATC will only be heard thru the headset.

Hope that helps!

What do you do if you use an USB microphone and not a headphone and want the sounds and ATC to come out of the speakers? You just want the microphone for transmitting. I would appreciate it if you could let me know what the setting are in control panel for this example?

Thanks.

Simply set (within SB3) the input as the USB set and the output as the ordinary sound card.

What about FSInn? That is what I am using.

Thanks.

I am still using FSInn 1.0 with AVC but imagine that 1.1 also has the ability to set the sound devices.

Norm,

It has Microphone, Headset and Speaker settings.

Under Microphone I will select the USB microphone.

Under headset, remember, I don't have one so my choices are Default Mapper, Wave - SB Audigy 2 ZS Audio and Direct Sound - SB Audigy 2 ZS Audio.

I guess I am not sure what Direct Mapper means and I am not sure if I check Wave or Direct Sound because both have my sound card.

Under Speakers it has the same three choices and I am not sure which one to set.

Your advise as usual is very much appreciated.

Matthew,

Both choices give different results to different people.

I personally find DirectSound works best for me. try it and see, then if you try Wave and make the decision based on the results.

Thanks. I will make the comparison. One other quick question if you please.

I have a 7.1 Surround sound system but FS2004 only plays the sub and the speakers up front. Is there a setting that can be used to get the full 7.1, or even 5.1 effect?
