Steve Morley 898517 Posted February 28, 2011 at 09:27 PM Posted February 28, 2011 at 09:27 PM (edited) Comox is always proud when the snowbirds arrive. In fact it's become a yearly event for all of us who live in the area to head out to the airport to greet them for their annual pilgrimage and daily flights for their final training before the start of the airshow season. The Vancouver FIR would like to welcome everyone to fly-in to the Comox airport (CYQQ) in honour of this real world event for one of the best demonstration flight teams in the world! To parallel the Snowbirds real world arrival, plan to arrive in Comox airport on March the 28th. We've asked the virtual snowbirds to join us as well, but even if they are unable make it, please plan on attending. This is your chance to fire up your favourite warbird to show support for the military, but feel free to fly anything you'd like. The runway is plenty long enough (10,000') to handle most birds, the more variety the better for this one. Give the controllers a workout We'll have at least Vancouver Centre online as well as Comox Tower for as much as possible throughout the day. Some pilots have even planned on flying the real world flight from the Snowbirds base in Moose Jaw (CYMJ) to Comox for the event. Aharon Dayan Posted February 28, 2011 at 11:30 PM Posted February 28, 2011 at 11:30 PM Sound fun and interesting airport to use for vatsim event!! One problem: you forgot to mention beginning and ending time of the event. I believe that CYQQ used to be official training base for Canadian Airlines. Correct or not? Anyway, this is certainly event that I will not miss unless last minute real world schedule forces me to do!! Aharon
Steve Morley 898517 Posted March 1, 2011 at 01:45 AM Author Posted March 1, 2011 at 01:45 AM Hi Aharon, Since I didn't have a time for the real event yet, I kinda covered it all by saying we'll have as much ATC online throughout the day as possible. That being said, as my fellow controllers get back to me with their schedules, we may narrow it down... All in all, we're on the wet coast, and most have jobs, so 6-10PM Pacific would be the busier times, but I know at least one controller who is going to try to be online throughout the day work permitting. We'll cya there! Steve PS: As for Comox being a Canadian Airlines training airport, I personally don't know, I thought it was always military, but it wouldn't surprise me either
Aharon Dayan Posted March 1, 2011 at 02:34 PM Posted March 1, 2011 at 02:34 PM Steve, Thanks for reply!!! I do look forward to CYQQ event and the evening hours are perfect!! I do remember reading somewhere on internet that CYQQ served as training facility for Canadian airlines but cannot find such information again!!
