Just wondering if someone could shed some light into this for me. thanks Anthony ImBoden (CDN008) Vice President of Events & Public Relations Canadian Airlines Virtual Fly the Goose. Christopher Serio 823884 Posted November 26, 2005 at 01:40 AM Posted November 26, 2005 at 01:40 AM X-Plane is a flight simulator however it has a lot of similarities and differences to Microsoft's flight simulator. X-Plane's aeronautical calculations are done every frame so that no matter what aircraft/object you build, it'll fly realistically. MSFS on the other hand uses a table lookup. An aircraft author essentially has to tell the sim how the plane will fly at various phases of flight. X-Plane is currently authorized by the FAA to be used in specific training simulators that can contribute toward earing an airline transport pilot rating. X-Plane has always had 2 drawbacks to it vs. MSFS. It's scenery was never very good and the aircraft for that the public were making for the sim weren't very good. After many months of work, the X-Plane authors have finally completed an AWESOME scenery package for the sim that will be publically available soon (see screenshots of it in my earlier post). Little by little people are starting to invest time into making aircraft for the sim so they're getting better. If you're looking to fly an aircraft that behaves just like the real one, X-Plane is the way to go. Pierre Theillere 861704 Posted November 27, 2005 at 03:00 PM Posted November 27, 2005 at 03:00 PM Hi all! X-Plane USED to be less "pretty" than FS2004, and HAD less choice on aircrafts... but maybe it's about to change! Just have a look at: * http://baugras.club.fr/xplane/index.html for amazing scenery * http://x-plane.org/registry/7372.shtml for incredible EC120 helo with fully interactive 3D cockpit... that flies very well! * http://www.xsquawkbox.net/ for SquawkBox for X-Plane, now final. version v1.0! * http://www.x-plane.com of course to have a try during the 6 minutes free demo! * http://www.xpgoodwayteam.org/ for great tools and realistic aircrafts. Enjoy! Pierre, LFPG, STV1010
