Anthony Lawrence Posted April 22, 2011 at 10:45 AM Posted April 22, 2011 at 10:45 AM All, The VATSIM-UK server is currently offline as the datacentre where the server is hosted experienced issues in the early hours of this morning (21/04). The server is connected to the internet again however it doesn't appear to be booting properly. More information as we receive it. I hope you'll all appreciate that this is outside of our control and we'll have to sit it out until the issue is resolved. Cheers, Anthony

Board of Governors Gunnar Lindahl Posted April 26, 2011 at 10:43 PM Board of Governors Posted April 26, 2011 at 10:43 PM The data center where our server is based is experiencing some hardware issues so it's out of our hands at the moment - fingers crossed it will be sorted ASAP. Anthony Lawrence Posted April 27, 2011 at 02:55 PM Author Posted April 27, 2011 at 02:55 PM Hi Guys, The issue is still on-going. They're currently re-building the RAID for our server as we experienced a HDD issue. It should be complete within the next 24 hours. I can only apologise for the downtime - although it is out of our control (and the datacentre's). Cheers, Anthony
Anthony Lawrence Posted April 28, 2011 at 11:48 AM Author Posted April 28, 2011 at 11:48 AM All, The latest news from the datacentre: We have been forced into rebuilding the RAID array on all drives do to the system not recognising one of the four active drives, and failing to rebuild RAID in the current setup. The system software has been rebuilt from scratch and will be rebuilt using a backup taken just before the server went offline. This has caused obvious delays to the already increasing downtime, and we will be compensating all those effected by this downtime. We ask for your patience, and thank you for your understanding while this downtime takes place. Our sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused. Cheers, Anthony

Anthony Lawrence Posted April 28, 2011 at 06:33 PM Author Posted April 28, 2011 at 06:33 PM When it coming back??????? Unknown at the minute - we have been [Mod - Happy Thoughts]ured the guys at the datacentre are working extremely hard to resolve the issue ASAP. As a note to all: All personal email addresses are still active as they're hosted by Google. The department specific emails are working however they're not being handled by the ticketing system - once the server is online the relevant people will receive your requests/bugs/complaints/feedback and handle it accordingly. We'd like to thank you for your patience during this time. Cheers, Anthony
Anthony Lawrence Posted April 29, 2011 at 07:30 PM Author Posted April 29, 2011 at 07:30 PM From our host: Update #8: We currently have an outsourced Sys Admin specialist working on this server as the software configuration is not allowing the required setup to work. We have a full backup ready to restore, but are unable to until we can get the operating system and control panels working correctly. This is an unprecedented problem to us and the company we have hired to work on it, but we are all confident we will see results very soon as things now seem to be progressing positively. Luke Kolin Posted May 1, 2011 at 11:02 PM Posted May 1, 2011 at 11:02 PM Out of curiosity, if you have a full backup ready to restore, why don't you ask the hosting provider to give you a new machine to restore it onto, and let them screw around with your old one at their leisure? Cheers! Luke ... I spawn hundreds of children a day. They are daemons because they are easier to kill. The first four remain stubbornly alive despite my (and their) best efforts. ... Anthony Lawrence Posted May 2, 2011 at 09:28 AM Author Posted May 2, 2011 at 09:28 AM Out of curiosity, if you have a full backup ready to restore, why don't you ask the hosting provider to give you a new machine to restore it onto, and let them screw around with your old one at their leisure? Cheers! Luke Hi Luke, We don't personally have a copy of the backup image, the hosting provider do - I've got a copy of our files and databases. I didn't wish to go down the route of having our account moved to a different node if they can't/wouldn't restore our individual backup (the backup they're talking about is a full server one as far as I'm aware). Plus, if they've tied their man-power up in resolving this issue, then they probably won't put restoring our individual account on a new server, at the top of their list of priorities. I've asked them whether it's a possibility, however if we move we'll have new IPs and we'll then experience up to 48 hours of DNS propogation before we have everyone back on the site. If their repair isn't going to take much longer than 24 hours, then we'll just carry on waiting it out since it'll be easier for everyone. Cheers, A... Anthony Lawrence Posted May 2, 2011 at 03:23 PM Author Posted May 2, 2011 at 03:23 PM All, The VATUK website should return this evening. If the server isn't up by this evening, we'll be moved to a new node. If this happens, we'll be aiming to have the site back up before the week is out. Cheers, A...
