Raymond Stratton 1191157 Posted April 28, 2011 at 03:12 AM Posted April 28, 2011 at 03:12 AM When I am using Vatsim the aircraft are above the ground about 20 ft. while parked or taxing. Anybody know why????

Chris Kawchuk 1129097 Posted April 28, 2011 at 09:34 AM Posted April 28, 2011 at 09:34 AM Here's a quick FAQ I put together on another forum. Hope it helps you out! Common XSquawkbox problems: Floating planes: Ensure you have the right Altimeter settings for the current weather. do a ".metar KLAX" in the chat window, and ensure you've set your local altimeter properly. Most likely, everyone else is at the right height, and they see you sunken below the pavement; as your altimeter settings aren't the same as what everyone else is set to... hence the "reported altitude" of your aircraft (and other aircraft) is wrong. Also ensure you have "Runways follow Terrain Contours" OFF, in your Rendering settings. Sometimes, there's simply an inconsistency with the way FSinn, Squawkbox, Xsquawkbox etc (and other VATSIM clients) report their altitude and model placement. Theyre "close", but there will always be variation between VATSIM clients for now. (i.e. +/- 10 feet or so) Poor graphics/Textures: The trouble is local. Go to XSquawkbox preferences window, and select "model resolution" to "high" or "extreme". Wrong Planes: Probably caused by 'the other guy" not setting his Aircraft type properly. Although he thinks he's flying a Cessna, he put in "B744" as his airplane type. Xsquawkbox I believe defaults to a 737 if it can't figure out what the other aircraft is. Adding more CSL's will improve the likelihood of finding a right match for what "the other guy" is advertising he is. Download all you find here: http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?app=downloads&showcat=12 Place these files into /X-Plane/Resources/plugins/XSquawkbox Resources/CSL/ CSL's are the "library" of models that XSB can choose from, in order to render another aircraft. Wade only gives you a few to begin with as part of the Xsquawkbox distribution (else it'd be huge!); and the expectation is that you come here and download ones you may wish to install. Plus, XSB has no right to distribute other user's CSLs; hence they're not included in the distribution of Xsquawkbox. Wrong "Navigation" FS2004, FS9, FSX, X-Plane, Fly, etc all have slightly different airport taxiways. No one is considered "right" per se, although I'd lean towards X-Plane having more accurate ones, esp in the Payware scenery. Don't worry, GND and TWR controllers all know that it varies, they wont get on your case if they "think" you've driven onto the gr[Mod - Happy Thoughts]. Many times, i.e. in FS2004 or FS9, entire taxiways and even Runways don't exist anymore; yet people still use them. (Kudos to Robin peel for the data.x-plane.com AIRAC Datacycle, keeping it all up to date, and all contributors giving tweaks). =) - CK.

Brian Cheung 1181193 Posted April 28, 2011 at 06:18 PM Posted April 28, 2011 at 06:18 PM if "runways follow terrain" is off and planes are still hovering or sinking then their altimeter is likely wrong. Either way, it's just aesthetic and really shouldn't affect your ops. Brian Cheung - 1181193 ZDC
