Wade Williams 877539 Posted May 3, 2011 at 03:41 PM Posted May 3, 2011 at 03:41 PM All: If you're a user of XSB, I want you to be aware the writing is on the wall for major changes to XSB's compatibility matrix. Apple's latest Xcode, Xcode 4, does not support any OS earlier than 10.6. That means it does not support PowerPC Macs. For now XSB can be compiled with Xcode 3.2.6 and retain it's 10.4 and PPC support. However, I expect that to change in the future. When will this change occur? I don't know. It could happen as early as June at WWDC, or it could take several more years. However, Apple has a history of moving quickly to deprecate things they no longer want to support, and I think Xcode 4 is big flashing neon sign that they want to drop everything prior to 10.6. So, in my opinion, Apple will likely drop support for Xcode 3.2.6 a lot sooner than many people would think or want. If you're using an OS prior to 10.6 and have the ability to upgrade, I would suggest you start forward with a plan to do so. If you have a PowerPC Mac (like I do), then that machine is likely going to be out of luck at some point in the future. Plan for this now - all the angry posts in the world won't change it. When Apple drops support for PPC and OS's before 10.6 in Xcode, so does XSB. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
