Darrol Larrok 1140797 Posted May 4, 2011 at 07:25 PM Posted May 4, 2011 at 07:25 PM Smoke effects appear to be squares in FSX. Not sure why, I haven't changed anything. This occurred both before and after I updated my drivers, and I did try rolling back and reinstalling the new update. Example pictures: http://i914.photobucket.com/albums/ac343/dlrk/squaresmoke.png http://i914.photobucket.com/albums/ac343/dlrk/squaresmoke1.png This occurs in any aircraft. Specs: 6 GB ram. Randy Tyndall 1087023 Posted May 6, 2011 at 01:08 AM Posted May 6, 2011 at 01:08 AM Any new aircraft added to your stable that may have changed the smoke/contrails texture? Any effects you have added to your flightsim effects file? Randy Tyndall - KBOI ZLA I-11/vACC Portugal P4 “A ship is always safe in the harbor. Tony Vienonen 1136602 Posted May 6, 2011 at 01:26 AM Posted May 6, 2011 at 01:26 AM You might have corrupted or missing texture files. That, or you're running the engines a little too rich .
Darrol Larrok 1140797 Posted May 6, 2011 at 01:32 AM Author Posted May 6, 2011 at 01:32 AM How do I check for corrupted texture files?
Randy Tyndall 1087023 Posted May 6, 2011 at 03:44 PM Posted May 6, 2011 at 03:44 PM Darrol, I [Mod - Happy Thoughts]ume the Carenado came with an installer. Try installing it to a temporary folder and see if it sets up a texture file and an effects file in that temp spot (anywhere except in the Flightsim folder). That should give you a separate set of files to overwrite to the aircraft file in flightsim and see if it changes anything. Basically just copy any temp/texture and temp/effects to the matching spot in flightsim. If they were corrupted during the install process this may fix it. If the download was corrupt then you'll have to re-download. Just ideas...not really answers. Randy Tyndall - KBOI ZLA I-11/vACC Portugal P4 “A ship is always safe in the harbor. Charan Kumar Posted May 6, 2011 at 07:06 PM Posted May 6, 2011 at 07:06 PM Darrol, if you recently updated your nVidia drivers, any chance you can try and roll it back to the previous one? nVidia installation folders are usually in C:\nVidia and all versions go under that, [Mod - Happy Thoughts]uming you haven't deleted them. I have started noticing FSX crashes which weren't the case before. My laptop complaints of disp driver crashes has increased (also a nVidia card). Gerard Marley Posted May 9, 2011 at 10:48 PM Posted May 9, 2011 at 10:48 PM By chance I noticed the same problem today while flying my CS757. After looking around and doing some investigation, I found that the texture referred to in my contrail effects was missing from the system. I have no idea how that happened, I certainly didn't manually delete it, but [Mod - Happy Thoughts]ume something I de-installed must have removed it. The missing file was "fx_smoke.bmp" located within the fsx Effects/Texture folder. This is specified in the 3 files with names beginning with fs_contrail located in the Effects folder. I restored the file using a program downloaded from the AVsim library - gauges_recovery_fsx.zip (after having made a backup before running the program). Hope this helps.
