Sean Averre 1138957 Posted May 12, 2011 at 11:41 AM Posted May 12, 2011 at 11:41 AM Hi everybody! I don`t know if vatsim has ever done an air show where many planes put on a show. But Iv always wanted to do an air show in fsx after going to biggin hill. Does anyone think its a great idea? I would love to fly a 747 in formation with the red arrows or any other little jets. No date yet but this should be fun

Trent Hopkinson Posted May 19, 2011 at 09:25 PM Posted May 19, 2011 at 09:25 PM To save every man and his doggy jumping on the thread and saying "Airshows arn't allowed"** howbout calling it a formation and Aerobatics flight. (not display)++ ** It's not the flying that's not allowed, it's observing without participating by being airborne which is not allowed. ++ see above. Trent Hopkinson Posted May 25, 2011 at 09:17 PM Posted May 25, 2011 at 09:17 PM Disrupting other traffic isn't permitted either True. So you will want to be avoiding places like KLAX for your airshow. Places that arn't frequented by much RPT type operations are your best bet. And you will need to be talking to ATC if they are on or monitoring Unicom and be prepared to halt for traffic to land, usually by taking up a hold or orbits for a little while (say, 5 mins) while someone lands or takes off. William Lewis Posted October 11, 2011 at 05:14 AM Posted October 11, 2011 at 05:14 AM Best place to fly formation in the US is inside a MOA, Military Operations Area. The are already designed to stay away from major airports and heavily used airspace. Plus they don't get as much of a workout on VATSIM. Just fly VFR and you will not need to contact any controller as long as you remain within cl[Mod - Happy Thoughts] G and E airspace, or you can request clearance to operate in the MOA from the operating facility if online, at which they will maintain your separation from other IFR traffic. The above pertains to United States
Brian Freeman 1137283 Posted December 1, 2011 at 04:51 PM Posted December 1, 2011 at 04:51 PM Requesting and using an MOA is a VSOA activity only. If you're a member, go for it! If not, this would unfortunately be against the rules. However, that's not to say you couldn't fly through it. Maybe try filing VFR and using a training area near a regional airport if one is available?
