Karl Haglund 811704 Posted December 23, 2011 at 04:28 AM Posted December 23, 2011 at 04:28 AM In my experience with FAA FOIAs, they have both been free, but that was just to get a copy of an SOP. . Harold or anyone else who has successfully navigated obtaining SOPs via FOIA, How exactly did you request the SOPs? Are there any keywords or particular phrases that might help in obtaining as much useful information as possible on a position? Many thanks, Karl

Ensure you say the correct facility and what exactly you want and format you want. IE "Request JAX ATCT SOPs in PDF format".

As a federal employee myself, I have a healthy appreciation (unhealthy paranoia?) for wording things correctly on any federal paperwork! So, I appreciate your input. Harold Rutila 974112 Posted December 23, 2011 at 08:42 PM Posted December 23, 2011 at 08:42 PM Karl, One thing you might also want to request are the Letters of Agreement between applicable facilities. It's one thing I forgot to do. Occasionally they will be included inside the actual SOP, but usually not. And Daniel's wording is correct.

Done a few FOIAs with that wording, wonder how many former military people had a slight chuckle with that wording.

Done a few FOIAs with that wording, wonder how many former military people had a slight chuckle with that wording. Daniel, Hilarious! I sent a couple of requests today before even reading this, and guess how they started...? "Respectfully request..." verbatim! I guess our indoctrination has paralleled in certain ways... Karl,One thing you might also want to request are the Letters of Agreement between applicable facilities. Harold, Thanks, I did neglect to request the LOA's specifically when I (respectfully) requested the SOP. I have submitted separate FOIAs for the RVM and SOPs, so have already started down the multiple FOIA path. Perhaps I will see what comes with the SOPs or submit another... a bit torn about that. Thanks much to everyone for their help, Karl
Harold Rutila 974112 Posted December 24, 2011 at 04:22 AM Posted December 24, 2011 at 04:22 AM I always worry that big brother is wondering why I've made 3 or 4 requests for ATC docomeentation, but then I always remember that people request more substantial -- and possibly non-existent -- information from the gov. (http://www.alien-ufos.com/ufo-alien-discussions/11846-why-foia-requests-arent-worth-anything.html) I think we'll be alright.
