When we set out to build what we thought would be a better network back in early 2001, we didn’t think about how long we might be around. We were more focused on doing everything that needed to be done just to be able to flip the switch and have everything work on that evening so long ago. Everything managed to come together and people began to fly and control. We were amazed that on that day we had several thousand members who were ready to support our fledgling network. We could hardly have envisioned that over time, we would surp[Mod - Happy Thoughts] 300,000 members who log over 1,000,000 flight operations each and every year and 20,000,000 aggregate hours of simulated flight operations over the past ten years. None of us would have ever imagined that the little network we started would be the subject of countless newspaper and magazine articles as well as appear on numerous radio and television programs. Not in our wildest dreams could we have foreseen VATSIM being used as an aid by real world pilots to train for or to maintain their proficiencies or that so many members would use it as a stepping stone to obtaining their pilot’s license or career in air traffic control. It was inconceivable that we would collaborate with an organization researching and developing the next-generation air traffic control system in the United States. All this and so much more has taken place in the past ten years. These accomplishments and many others, however, can’t be claimed by one or even a few of VATSIM’s Founding members. It is literally the cast of thousands of staff and members that has maintained VATSIM for ten years and will hopefully allow us to continue to celebrate future milestones. Our tenth anniversary is not the achievement of a select few but of the entire community from the Founding Members all the way to the newbie pilot. Congratulations to each and every member for making VATSIM what it is today. Thanks to our Staff, Governors and Founders for putting VATSIM together and have it run so well. Most of all thanks to all of our members. Without you participating, there would be no VATSIM. It is truly you who have been our success. Happy Anniversary VATSIM. Harv.
