Mark Smith 1119598 Posted August 7, 2011 at 10:18 PM Posted August 7, 2011 at 10:18 PM Winnipeg and Edmonton FIR's both have issues with the aircraft not seeing the controller in their list is certain areas. We have switched vis points, no change. We are using 4 vis points @ 600nm. Aircraft report seeing us online on vatspy, servinfo,ect............ Some aircraft restart, squawkbox or FSinn and find us. ( we can see aircraft in our vis circles). Now for the 0.5 cent question. Is there a voice server range that can be set. also this happen with VRC as well so it is not Euroscope specific. Any help would be appeciated. Mark Smith 1119598 Vatsim Supervisor
Ernesto Alvarez 818262 Posted August 8, 2011 at 12:20 AM Posted August 8, 2011 at 12:20 AM happens with the vis points. ive experienced this aswell going through large airspaces. you may have "blackout" holes in your visibility coverage that they are in, which you wont show on the clients. theres no voice range limitation, if they can see you on the ATC list then they can receive voice, if they cant see you on the list anymore then voice no longer works, text sometimes still will work, altho ive had times where ive had to resort to PM's until they show up again
Mark Smith 1119598 Posted August 8, 2011 at 01:30 AM Author Posted August 8, 2011 at 01:30 AM Thanks for the reply. We use the PM method too. Unfortunately some pilots who do not see us in the comms list choose to walk away from the "flight deck" until they see someone with a frequency. Luckily in Edmonton we have a FSS so we supplement CTR with the FSS when we can. Mark Smith 1119598 Vatsim Supervisor
Jake Saw Posted August 8, 2011 at 06:22 AM Posted August 8, 2011 at 06:22 AM The controllers "visibility range" is unrelated to the pilots ability to "see" the controller in their pilot client. The range that the pilot can "see" controllers is known as "Radio range" and is hardcoded on the server. Centre Positions have a radio range of 400NM. Only pilots within 400NM of your vis points will be able to see you online and auto tune to your voice room. You will be able to see them in your ATC client within 600NM because thats what you have selected as your visibility range, but they won't see you. There are multiple threads floating around about this if you want more information. Jake Developer - vatSys

Kirk Christie Posted August 8, 2011 at 01:14 PM Posted August 8, 2011 at 01:14 PM Hi Mark You cant extend it to 600nm, its hard coded by vatsim to be 400nm, there is nothing you can do to change that from your end. For this reason when im on CTR down under I only set my vis range to 400nm, that way I know if I can see a pilot, they can see me. The only way around this is to use FSS if your sector requires more than the 4 x 400nm range. As Jake has mentioned there are several threads about this issue, for the same area here is one http://forums.vatsim.net/viewtopic.php?f=71&t=57328 Kirk Christie - VATPAC C3 VATPAC Undercover ATC Agent Worldflight Perth 737-800 Crew Member
