INTRODUCTION OF THE ACARS PDC TRIAL - LONDON HEATHROW AIRPORT

From 15th October 2011 1200UTC, VATSIM-UK and London Heathrow will be trialing ACARS for operational use.

The trial is aimed at improving the way pilots receive their flight clearance, by means of issuing a Pre-Departure Clearance (PDC) via the Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System (ACARS).

The purpose of the trial is:

a) To gain valuable Pilot and Controller experience of ACARS and CPDLC operations;

b) To [Mod - Happy Thoughts]ess the suitability of such operations during “High Density” traffic periods;

c) To [Mod - Happy Thoughts]ess the integration of such systems into client programs.

The trial uses ACARS Software, Courtsey of Jeroen Hoppenbrouwers.

We invite Pilots to take part in the trial.

The trial will run until enough feedback has been gathered to make a decision, as to whether to adopt the system into normal operations.

The full Operational Briefing is available for download below, along with the applicable docomeents, to get you up and running with ACARS.

The docomeentation has been made to standardise the operations for all those involved with the trial.
