Todd Knutson 1169549 Posted October 20, 2011 at 01:50 PM Posted October 20, 2011 at 01:50 PM I've seen a number of posts where people say NVIDIA is better than ATI for flight sim graphics cards, but they don't give a reason for their opinion. I'm interested in hearing from users of both cards what they have experienced or heard. Thanks Todd Flying is easy. Landing is the trick.

Erhan Atesoglu 1050499 Posted October 21, 2011 at 01:51 AM Posted October 21, 2011 at 01:51 AM Because the rasterop count is higher on the Nvidias. ATi microarchitecture only supports 32 units, while the Nvidia 580 currently supports 48. That's half as many processors doing the same amount of work. Trust that whenever ATi beats Nvidia that it will be the more expensive of the two. http://www.pond64.net
Steven Cullen Posted October 21, 2011 at 02:27 AM Posted October 21, 2011 at 02:27 AM I have been a strict nvidia user for about 10 years. Two months ago I installed an ATI 5790 or something ( not home so can't check) with 2GB GPU and it just kicks my last nvidia to the curb. (2 x 260 GTX). So whatever you choose look around and research I think in the end it is a personal choice.
Jean Morissette 857169 Posted October 21, 2011 at 06:56 PM Posted October 21, 2011 at 06:56 PM Hi, video cards fans. A few month ago, I had a 64 meg Nvidia card. I coul run the good old TRACON, by Robert B Wesson, and I could run GoogleEarth in WinXP AND in Linux Ubuntu 11.04. NOW ? I have a 256 meg ATI Radeon video card. NOW ? I CAN NOT run the good old TRACON, because the text menus are all GARBLED, UNREADABLE ! And I tryed everything with the compatibility stuff !! NOW ? AND in Linux, GoogleEarth does almost the same thing: the text is very hard to see. . . Soooooooo, for me, Nvidia is better than ATI ! ! Blue skies. I'm not driving too fast..!? I'm flying too low! SEE the DVDs "What the BLEEP?! down the rabbit hole!" P4, 2.6ghz, 1Gb RAM, 256mg ATI Radeon. Here's Juliett Echo Alpha November, over.
Charan Kumar Posted October 21, 2011 at 07:47 PM Posted October 21, 2011 at 07:47 PM Also, as I found out after an expensive mistake, some MBs just don't like some cards...in my case, I used the same GPU on another MB which just kicked a$$ (compared to performance on the previous MB). So agree with Steven, do your research. When is your next Flight||VATSIM HitSquad Member, ZOA/ZAK/GANDER/P1
Erhan Atesoglu 1050499 Posted October 21, 2011 at 09:54 PM Posted October 21, 2011 at 09:54 PM Charan: it's even worse with memory... you don't want to be mixing and matching that's for sure, and most people ignore the QVL outright even though that's an indication they were tested and failed. http://www.pond64.net
