Julian Diamandis 926992 Posted October 21, 2011 at 06:27 PM Posted October 21, 2011 at 06:27 PM (edited) I have Gatwick2000 scenery installed. Set to performance, not EXTREME. HorizonVFR version 3 (south of england and wales) and(central England) installed. Flying the PMDG NGX. And I have REX running. Is REX the thing which is making my frames between 8-12? It might be the weather which updates too offen. Has anybody got this combination of software running smoothly, even if it means sacrificing certain options in the programs used? I would like to add active sky in the near future. I run a i7core and have a Nvidea GTX480. my PC has 6 gig of memory. best regards Julian Edited October 21, 2011 at 06:48 PM by Guest Videocard: GTX480 Processor: i7 core Mainboard: Memory: Soundcard: Creative X-Fi Titanium PSU: CAIR 750W CMPSU-750TXUK http://www.youtube.com/user/joolsd
Charan Kumar Posted October 21, 2011 at 06:47 PM Posted October 21, 2011 at 06:47 PM Julian, it's very difficult to point your fingers at any one piece of software and say that it's in the FS world. But the number of paywares you are running, not to mention the FSX beast itself, anything could be causing it. If you suspect REX, try running without the weather engine and from the FS local weather settings, try clear day settings. If your frame rates are better, then run real world weather without running REX. It will still use the REX textures but not the REX weather engine. Finally, if you think the weather display is causing it, then try reducing the texture resolution of the clouds used. For example, if you are running a comeULUS [OD] version and textures are at 4096, then reduce it to 1024 or lesser or choose a non-OD version. This will give you a good idea on what is causing it. You can do most of this, without having to restart FSX. Finally, try some other acft, freeware and then a less complex payware (than PMDG) to see if your FPS is any better. Erhan Atesoglu 1050499 Posted October 21, 2011 at 10:05 PM Posted October 21, 2011 at 10:05 PM Julian: REX gives you an option for texture sizes. Running 512 should have no impact at all, but as you increase from 1k to 2k to 4k you are going to find that it does indeed eat away at your resources. http://www.pond64.net
Julian Diamandis 926992 Posted October 21, 2011 at 10:37 PM Author Posted October 21, 2011 at 10:37 PM Oh yeah, I see what you mean. I disabled REX for one flight and the frames where fine. I should experiment with the texture sizes, to get better performance. I hear some people use Active sky and this gives better results on the weather front. Julian Diamandis 926992 Posted October 22, 2011 at 09:10 PM Author Posted October 22, 2011 at 09:10 PM I had a really good flight performance wize. I changed the cloud texture from HD to 1024px. I couldn't tell the difference. My flying was rubbish, but that's another issue. Erhan Atesoglu 1050499 Posted October 23, 2011 at 07:35 PM Posted October 23, 2011 at 07:35 PM You can always use it to match the flight you will be flying. If it is a GA flight theres no reason why you can't use 2K textures. But as you mentioned it's hard to tell the difference and really the texture is always going to be scaled down to something much smaller to fit the screen space. http://www.pond64.net
