Cert Check i18n

There appears to be a problem with encoding on the status check, as an example:

https://cert.vatsim.net/vatsimnet/idstatus.php?cid=1067774

Note the last name. Is this a problem with the database, or the encoding on the PHP side?

Cheers!

The registered name is Gilson Guimar?es so I guess its the character set used by them at signup.

Does this mean you're not encoding the names as UTF-8 in the database?

Cheers!

I personally do nothing

Christoph is away for a few days and should be able to answer more properly on his return.

Hello,

That is a Portuguese character, the one not showing properlly...

Actually they are two. An "~" over an "a"... Whope you can see it ...

Without it, the name should be "Guimaraes"...

Cheers,

Daniel Gomes

I'm not sure how the servers were migrated in August/September but if the code is the same then the encoding process should be the same.

Now... if the database has been CSV'ed / mysqldumped from one place to the other then this could be the problem.

Correct: Guimarães

Alternative: Guimaraes (without the tilde char).

Most of these were fine until a (presumable) migration/server change a year ago. viewtopic.php?f=68&t=53174

Next version of CERT will be UTF-8, sadly it will take some time 'til finished.

I took care of the encoding during the last server migration and I'm sure all data are in the database as before the migration. Maybe we'll find a solution to fix this, but I guess it can't be an automatic way because broken chars are broken and can't be reverted back

kind regards

Christoph

utf8_encode(); ??

Did the trick for an AirCharts char issue we were having.

Cheers!
