Deon Mathews Posted October 27, 2011 at 06:23 AM Posted October 27, 2011 at 06:23 AM Last night was great fun and a great success. With 14 light aircraft snaking it's way through the mountains enroute form Swellendam to Cape Town. A special word of thanks to Maurice who was brave enough to man Cape Town Tower, handling 14 tightly packed planes, all wanting joining and landing instructions at the same time. Our thanks to all who participated and looking forward to the next Wednesday when we plan to do some island hopping from Mauritius to Reunion. Everybody's invited to join!! Deon Mathews Posted November 4, 2011 at 08:55 AM Author Posted November 4, 2011 at 08:55 AM This week the Wednesday VFR was not as well attended as the week before, having said that though, it wasn't without its fair share of "incidents" with two of us ending up on a cliff after misjudging the terrain . The bit where we crossed the stretch of water was somewhat boring, but got interesting closer to our distination with IFR traffic inbound at the same time. Next week (wheather permitiing) we will be taking the Garden Route from Plettenberg Bay to George following the N2 for the most part. Deon Mathews Posted November 10, 2011 at 06:37 AM Author Posted November 10, 2011 at 06:37 AM Trekking along the Garden Route is stunningly beautitiful. Last night Alex Porterfield led the bunch from Mosselbay, along the coast for a touch and go at Plettenburgbay and onwards to our final destination at George where David van der Byl had his hands full on ATC, seperating and controlling the 9 inbounds. Once again an event worth remembering!!! Wednesday VFR has become an institution and won't be formally published, with pre-planned routes in future. We simply get together on Teamspeak from around 19h00 (local) and go fly. Any and all suggestions for a flight is welcome and lets see how the wind blows... You can either post your idea's here on the forum on click on the link on the VATSAF website. Deon Mathews Posted November 23, 2011 at 04:01 AM Author Posted November 23, 2011 at 04:01 AM Every Wednesday is group VFR night. These events have proven to be very popuplar and everyone is invited to join. As VFR flights are weather dependent, it is unwise to plan specific routes in advance. The route and aircraft type will therefor be decided on the day and any suggestions for interesting Group VFR flights are welcome. Join us on Teamspeak from 17h00z for the flight briefing and lets go fly. Post your suggestions on the website (http://www.vatsaf.com) or on the Vatsaf forums under this post. Allways great fun for the pilots and very challenging for brave controllers... Follow us on Twitter @VATSAF See you there... Deon Mathews VATSAF Events Participation from across the VATSIM network is welcomed. E-mail us on [email protected] for Teamspeak details.
