Dan McMahan 834034 Posted January 3, 2006 at 02:30 AM Posted January 3, 2006 at 02:30 AM Whoever wrote the e-mail. If they had wanted it public they would have put in the forum and not went to the trouble to mail it to the proper personal. And that is all I have to say about that because it should not be here in the forum for that very reason. The moderator should cease and desist this topic in my opinion. It would be the professional thing to do. Isaac Niedrauer 947516 Posted January 3, 2006 at 03:57 AM Posted January 3, 2006 at 03:57 AM I do agree this discussion must terminate for the sake of Vatsim. Vatsim may have it's problems but division is only making it worse. MS, I fully agree with your side of this but I also realize that neither side is making progress and nobody is willing to listen. This will be my last post on this thread, - Isaac Clear Skies, Isaac Niedrauer
Jeff Thomas Posted January 3, 2006 at 05:01 AM Posted January 3, 2006 at 05:01 AM Just a quick recap for those of you who don't want to go through and read everything...unfortunately I am sick today and have nothing better to do and this is WAY better than Jerry Springer... 1) Marc Sykes is fired as ZLA Chief (or whatever the heck they call them now) via an email sent to him, the ZLA staff and roster, and some VATSIM big wigs. 2) Marc also looses his INSTRUCTOR rating (temporarily) because according to VATUSA policy he did not have the required 10 hours online time. 3) Ian posts a message asking for a policy check from Jeff Turner (VATUSA1 for those that don't know) as to the 10 hours and provided a great run down of Who's Who in VATUSA (note...some did not have the required 10 hours). --- that was the initial post 4) After about 4 pages of useless name calling and general bickering back and forth, Jeff Turner (VATUSA1 in case you forgot), posted a message stating he had made a mistake and re-instated the I-1 rating for Marc. 5) Marc, by then, had already transferred to VATCAN (Toronto), so his I-1 was null and void anyway. All that happened by page 6 or so.... The REST is just absolute drivel and a complete waste of time. Don't bother reading it unless you want to see someone get popped by the VATSIM Censor Police (a good thing mind you), watch Lance and Marc have a verbal fight that goes on and on (I don't think those two like each other too much...just a guess...I'm thinking a Tequila shot contest at the convention should be the decider), or you want to read some great one liners....all of which has nothing to do with anything. I think at this point, if we want to discuss Marc's removal, or the VATUSA leadership, we should start a new thread over in the US division so we don't have to make everyone else listen to the bickering of a few. Because this thread really died a long, long time ago...but like a train wreck, we (including me I know ) cannot seem to stop watching or posting... So, I won't respond to anyone else's post in this thread (so flame away, flame away, flame away all --- sorry still have Santa on the brain), but I was feeling like sharing today, and a little left out, so I thought I would add a "productive" recap for those of you who like to skip to the end of the story to see how it ends Oh, and I apologize in advance for posting this....I know it was totally useless, but I just couldn't resist..... Happy New Year, let's go fly or control. Jeff Thomas VP-IT https://joinava.org
Terry Kocher 919807 Posted January 3, 2006 at 08:20 AM Posted January 3, 2006 at 08:20 AM I'll flat out say this, I do not know Marc Sykes or Jeff Turner very well..so I am not going to continue to fuel this raging fire with that kind of gasoline...but I am going to comment on one simple thing that I found while reading over the entire 14 pages of this novel. In the VATUSA Standard Operating Procedures for Instructors and Senior Instructors...it says that in order to maintain an INS rating you must maintain an AVERAGE of 10 hours per month. Hold up...doesn't this mean that Marc (after providing factual info that I have double checked myself) has not broken the "maintain an average of 10 hours per month" rule? Because he has OVER a 10 hours per month AVERAGE as he so clearly states. Now lets look at the example provided by Marc himself about 5 pages back: January: 100 February: 70 March: 140 April: 80 May: 30 June: 9 This is the list of an Instructor's time online during a 6-month period. Lets take those numbers and average them out to get the average number of hours online per month in the June month: 71.5 hours, so unless the SOP was written incorrectly this is not grounds for removal. I have taken Lance Williams advice an reading between the lines - and I have found that if Jeff Turner removed Marc Sykes's INS rating on the grounds that he did not meet the average 10 hours per month rule, it was unjust, because Marc infact did maintain an average of 10 hours per month, even though he might not have had 10 hours accomeulated that month. This is my first and only comment in this topic, feel free to fire at will. I've learned a valuable lesson from the soap opra that is the VATUSA forums (NY?) not to take a liberal point of view. Chanse Watson 834810 Posted January 3, 2006 at 12:07 PM Posted January 3, 2006 at 12:07 PM I think most of us with the facts in line and doesn't hold the grudge against ZLA like some people do will know and understand what the arguement actually is (stated plain and simple in several posts by several members, but apparantly that's not enough...too much "inbetween the line reading I suppose). Mark Plumley 814838 Posted January 3, 2006 at 06:33 PM Posted January 3, 2006 at 06:33 PM Why hasn't this whole thread been removed? A potential new pilot could stumble upon it....do we want to turn people away here? I thought we wanted to raise membership levels? This should be locked, removed or whatever...just get rid of it.
