Alin Fusaru 1017547 Posted December 8, 2011 at 04:16 PM Posted December 8, 2011 at 04:16 PM (edited) ROvACC and Politehnica University of Bucharest is proud to announce a large scale collaboration project offering introductory air traffic control courses to all students majoring in Air Navigation. In November we had the launch of this brand new project to extend VATSIM outside the realm of hobbyist use toward academic use. The project has been initiated by former ROvACC Training Director and now real life Bucharest Approach controller and taken over by ROvACC Director Eric Bocaneanu and by Alin Fusaru, presently Training Director in ROvACC. As part of this effort the university’s Air Navigation computer room, equipped with 8 full ATC consoles (or 4 EXE+PLN sets) including communications systems and a touchscreen (ATC2ATC coordination), has been setup with EuroScope and GVCCS and will be used for simulator training and for larger ROvACC events on VATSIM from a single location. EuroScope radar software, a powerful simulator and ATM software, has been setup via plugins to function similar to the system used at Bucharest Approach at ROMATSA. This will help the students to gain an intimate familiarity with the way real ATM systems work and will be able to apply this knowledge later in their careers. The first phase of the project commenced last month with an ATC/VATSIM introduction course to a cl[Mod - Happy Thoughts]room of over 50 students (sophomores and junior years). Feedback from students has been extremely good and in the future we plan to make VATSIM control part of the curriculum, replacing an old unrealistic simulator that was used previously.
