Current statistics show that many people have been directly or indirectly affected by cancer. An estimated 117,800 new cases of cancer (excluding 74,100 non-melanoma skin cancers) and 75,000 deaths from cancer will occur in Canada in 2011. The risk of cancer increases with age 42% of new cancer cases and 59% of cancer deaths will occur among those who are 70 years of age and older. However, cancer can occur at all ages.

Because of the global impact that this disease has caused, it is important that we act now in whatever way we can to help prevent and someday cure this disease. The Toronto FIR would like to give everyone on the VATSIM network an opportunity right now to help, by giving us only your time and participating in Flight to Fight Cancer, you can help in the global cancer movement and change lives. Best of all, we are fighting cancer while doing something that we all enjoy, flying on VATSIM.

Join the Toronto FIR staff for the Flight to Fight Cancer on Saturday, 14th January, 2012, from 11am – 11pm ET (1500Z-0300Z). Participating in the event is more than just flying for twelve hours, for each completed flight you fly supports the fight against cancer, because each flight flown into or out of the Toronto/Pearson International (CYYZ) between 15Z - 03Z, $1 will be donated from anonymous members of VATSIM to the “Canadian Cancer Society” http://www.cancer.ca, a national, community-based organization of volunteers whose mission is the eradication of cancer and the enhancement of the quality of life of people living with cancer.

Toronto staff will be fully staffing the Toronto/Pearson International airports, but pilots are also encouraged to fly into or out of other local satellite airports in the Toronto FIR. In addition, all pilots participating will be entered into a draws for a chance to receive a fantastic gift from one of our sponsor companies.

During the Flight to Fight Cancer, pilots need to come organized and prepared. To help new pilots, a Toronto pilot briefings is available Toronto Pilots Briefing. We also have pilot tutorials to help you understand how we work in Toronto as well. Click the link for the Toronto Pilot Tutorials. We also have amazing freeware scenery that works for FS9/FSX. Click the link for the Toronto Scenery. In addiction this scenery is compatible with Aerosoft AES for FS9 users.

By spending one day doing what we all enjoy, benefits those whose lives have been affected by cancer. Fly to help fight cancer!
