Just like to know people`s opinons on Active Sky 2012. I have Active Sky Evolution which i run along side REX. It took my many weeks of tweaking Active Sky Evolution to get it to depict the weather accurately. I just want to know if its really worth spending the money on Active Sky 2012 and maybe going through the heartache of spending weeks again tweaking it to work correctly.

I just got it and I love it. I've never tried running it alongside REX, but I know alot of folks on here kinda shy away from that. But as far as weather engines go, you can't beat AS. Not sure either about your trouble tweaking it again, I didn't have any issues with it myself, I know the theme selection stuff on it is still kinda fumbly. Not sure if it had this feature before, but I just put in a flight plan and I can have it choose its own theme selections based on the enroute weather. But at altitude, it's pretty smooth. I don't have the wind shift/airspeed craziness, and it's pretty accurate aloft. I have my cloud draw distance set pretty low, but it still looks great as it slowly fades them in, and it will still put something in the distance to make you wonder what's ahead, instead of just being surrounded by a few miles of little cottonballs then clear ahead when you know there's a huge storm 50nm out in front of you. All in all, smooth as expected, and money well spent.

Scott i did decide to purchase Active Sky 2012 about 5 days after making the post in this forum.

I have to say i am very impressed with it. It works alot better than Active Sky Evolution, and i did not even need to tweak it as the default setting worked great for depicting the weather.

I am still using REX with Active sky 2012 becouse i think the REX textures are alot better than the textures that came with Active Sky, also the REX textures work great with Active Sky without any problems.

So yep Active Sky 2012 was a very good and worth while purchanse.

Yup I agree on the textures, they're pretty pixelated. If I had a higher-end setup, I would use REX alongside, but I'm maxed on my addons. I think I'll get it and save it for some recreational offline non VA tracked flying. Glad it works for ya, I gotta have accurate weather as well! Plus it's about the only tool I can accurately put winds aloft data into the FMC. My plan today is to rev it up a bit and extend my cloud draw distance, see how far I can push it before it 'redlines' and throttles my fps back. I'm sure it will surprise me, as it does most days!
