Since it appears that the FS community will be on FSX for a while, given the recent Flight developments, I thought I'd post links to some helpful guides for setting up FSX, as well as a few comments. Setting up FSX can be a challenge, but I hope this will help.

 

Preventing FSX from crashing when you use menus or right click

The problem is apparently caused by a buggy DLL file. This guide replaces the DLL with an older one that works better for FSX.

Getting FSX to work properly requires changes to it's CFG file. This online utility will make those changes automatically, all you have to do is answer a few questions and upload your original file.

FSX's internal graphics settings are inadequate. This guide contains a tool that can be used to set these externally and easier. This guide contains two basic set ups, but I've noticed that changing some of those options can be helpful. For me, disabling transparency AA was quite helpful and had minimal negative effects. With the latest NVIDIA driver, the Nvidia Inspector tool can be used an FPS limiter, which is necessary because of the way FSX handles FPS throttling. Set FPS unlimited in FSX, and set the FPS limiting option in Inspector to 30.
