Sean Averre 1138957 Posted January 14, 2012 at 07:08 AM Posted January 14, 2012 at 07:08 AM Hi, the title says it all, where can I get en route charts? Most only show them from the US and Im looking for ones that cover europe. Im flying tomorrow from the netherlands to the UK and Germany, quick responses will be appreciated Thanks and a question for the frankfurt overload event tomorrow (or today but Im in asia so yea) will frankfurt cover the munich area? Also how often are controllers online at that time?
Phillip Speer Posted January 14, 2012 at 11:52 AM Posted January 14, 2012 at 11:52 AM Hi Sean, The quick answer is visit AirCharts which links directly to the charts or the Vatsim Chart Database that links to the AIP but has a broader coverage at the moment. Regarding Frankfurt covering Munich. I can't comment on what ATC will be online for the event but normally Frankfurt is covered by Langen Radar and Munich by Munich Radar. Langen doesn't routinely cover Munich. It may be that ATC is planned to cover Munich Radar during the event though but will need a local ATC member to answer that. Thomas George 827476 Posted January 15, 2012 at 04:46 PM Posted January 15, 2012 at 04:46 PM Personally I always go straight to http://www.ead.eurocontrol.int/. Register and you've got all of Europe's charts etc at your fingertips, aerodrome, enroute, the lot... Thomas George
Thomas George 827476 Posted January 16, 2012 at 12:03 PM Posted January 16, 2012 at 12:03 PM Sure, you're absolutely right. For enroute charts though, if you're running the latest AIRAC in your FMS then you should be OK. Thomas George
Tim Wong Posted January 16, 2012 at 12:21 PM Posted January 16, 2012 at 12:21 PM As Phillip said, Frankfurt is covered by Langen Radar (EDGG_CTR). Munich Radar is not allowed to provide ATC in Langen Airspace. Do you want your Virtual Airline to become an official partner on VATSIM or to participate in the VAA Program? Adam Trzcinski Posted January 18, 2012 at 07:45 AM Posted January 18, 2012 at 07:45 AM Instead of complaining about outdated charts, we should be thankful for every pilot that even bothers to read charts these days. So thanks Sean!! VATSIM Germany www.ftw-sim.de | Fly-The-World economic simulation
Sean Averre 1138957 Posted January 18, 2012 at 08:38 AM Author Posted January 18, 2012 at 08:38 AM Oh thanks Adam, that was nice . But on a serious note are these outdated charts outdated on vatsim or only the real world? Nothing to different anyway, like France I found the exact same route I flew last week
Andreas Fuchs Posted January 18, 2012 at 10:11 AM Posted January 18, 2012 at 10:11 AM Hi Sean, it is great to see a pilot who is actively looking for charts to increase his situational awareness. As you have seen, not all of the enroute charts are really valid anymore, but for most airways/waypoints it is just details that have changed. So you will still be having an advantage. However, and here I speak from a real pilot's point of view, you don't really need enroute charts. In the real world we have them on board of our jet, but we rarely use them, because you get transferred from station to station anyways. Here in Europe it is the same, more or less and if ATC is around, they will give you a ping to contact them, when you are about to enter their airspace.
