Larry Reeves 946425 Posted January 21, 2006 at 08:39 PM Posted January 21, 2006 at 08:39 PM Hello, I was wondering if it's possible to have two headsets connected via of something like a splitter so that two people can listen and transmit. I have friends that would like to listen . My headset uses a USB port--I don't know if that would cause a problem. Any help or ideas greatly appreciated. thanks Larry Reeves
Andreas Fuchs Posted January 21, 2006 at 08:58 PM Posted January 21, 2006 at 08:58 PM Larry, I am not sure about the headsets, but what you can do is the following: a) use your USB-headset to transmit b) connect a pair of speakers or whatever speakers to your normal line-out of the main sound-device of your computer. c) in SB3 you can select which devices to use for sound output and input d) output to the speakers, input from headset This way you can use your headset's mike to speak, the speakers/hifi for output. Ruth McTighe 824054 Posted January 21, 2006 at 10:14 PM Posted January 21, 2006 at 10:14 PM if you are using headsets with jackplugs, then it's no problem. Just use a splitter. It's what we do at exhibitions to allow members of the public to listen in to the ATC. If it's possible to get a USB splitter I would guess you can do the same, but I've never tried it. My Logitech USB headset actually has jackplugs going into a USB connector, which gives me the best of both worlds! Larry Reeves 946425 Posted January 22, 2006 at 07:24 PM Author Posted January 22, 2006 at 07:24 PM thank you Andreas & Ruth for your replies. I went to circuit city and talked to salesman who said that there was not a splitter for USB. the jackplugs on the back of my computer are being used for my regular speakers but I also have jackplugs on the front. This salesman said that another headset (jackplug type) would work but I will probably have to do some tweaking. There is a good chance that he doesn't know anymore about what he talking about than I do but I will experiment--and as a last resort go back and by another headset with jackplugs and a splitter. again, thanks for your help Larry
Garry Morris 920567 Posted January 23, 2006 at 04:00 AM Posted January 23, 2006 at 04:00 AM Splitting a USB cable is very different than splitting an analog sound plug. All a USB splitter will do is have the PC attempt to recognize two separate headsets. You're better off just having your ATC output through the speakers along with the aircraft sounds, with your headset mic being used to transmit your requests to the controller (since your friends are in the same room, they'll be able to hear you speak without being jacked in). http://www.execjetva.com
