Jonathan Pilborough 953130 Posted January 22, 2006 at 11:34 AM Posted January 22, 2006 at 11:34 AM I'm trying to setup voice communications with AVC. I have a really cheap microphone that came with my computer. (you know the type). I can't have it anywhere near me beacuse of the stand and if I speak close it you get 'breath noise' all the time. When I run the AVC mic setup routine it complains my mic level is too low and noise level is too high and the playback is all broken up, though my voice is audible. Should I splash out on a new headset with inbuilt microphone? Will this have a better mic that will cure my problems? Is the 'breaking up' caused by the low sound level/AVC squelch or is it my rubbish soundcard(I've tried both DirectSound&Wave)?
Ross Moir 844817 Posted January 22, 2006 at 12:46 PM Posted January 22, 2006 at 12:46 PM Hello Jonathon , I am currently using a $7 special from woolworths .( Headset and Mike ) . It works extremely well with my Soundblaster Audigy card . Some folk in here are using the latest USB headphone / mic combinations and reports thus far are very favorable, Good quality sound , properly set up is an essential for clear and understandable transmission between controller and pilot , particularly if the controller / pilot has a strong accent , or Engllish is not his / her first language. Paul Callens 819067 Posted February 4, 2006 at 05:44 AM Posted February 4, 2006 at 05:44 AM Don't ditch the mic yet. I just today bought a Logictech headset with mic and I have the same problem. Totally frustrated! [email protected]
Ross Moir 844817 Posted February 4, 2006 at 11:59 AM Posted February 4, 2006 at 11:59 AM Hello Paul , This sometimes happens. If you try to make a recording using the Windows Sound recorder , and you get clear playback of the sound you recorded , then all is well . You can safely ignore the message you receive in Squawkbox. Sean Gibson 958782 Posted February 18, 2006 at 01:31 AM Posted February 18, 2006 at 01:31 AM Just cut a small piece of foam(the kind on cheap beds) and stick it on the end of the mic this should eliminate breath noise.
