Andrew Newman 1255387 Posted August 27, 2013 at 06:06 PM Posted August 27, 2013 at 06:06 PM Hello, I am most interested in applying to train to become a controller. Obviously I cannot do this at the moment as I cannot log into the site, but i have a quick question for anyone who can help. Would reviewing CAP413 from the CAA be of any use, especially to give me an insight to basic radiotelephony procedures? I understand this is for real world use, but i figure that the virtual world is based on it, and so why not go straight to the main source? Many Thanks, Andy. Ernesto Alvarez 818262 Posted August 27, 2013 at 06:10 PM Posted August 27, 2013 at 06:10 PM if you intend to control in those areas covered by that, yep. the earlier you start, the faster youll progress. dont wait until the last minute to start studying. #1 problem many students have. you have to be a "go getter" and be able to get the information and learn it on your own in order to do this. instructors cannot go through everything one on one, itd simply take too long. so its important for students to be able to do a lot of this on their own. definitely keep up with the way you are doing it

Hi Andy Yes, that is one of two of the resources you'll need, with the other being CAP493 (this one is a little more intricate and a heavier read!) http://www.caa.co.uk/application.aspx?catid=33&pagetype=65&appid=11&mode=detail&id=5638. If you get yourself over to the VATUK website they'll have more details there, though you'll have to wait for the system to come back online to create an account. http://www.vatsim-uk.co.uk/ Best regards Callum
Kieran Hardern Posted August 27, 2013 at 06:42 PM Posted August 27, 2013 at 06:42 PM Obviously I cannot do this at the moment as I cannot log into the site As of about 30 minutes ago, you can! Fortunately you joined the UK division before CERT went down which means our Single Sign-On (SSO) has your details. We've just put in place an alternate method for you to login (currently for everything excluding the forum). More details here: http://community.vatsim-uk.co.uk/topic/28546-sso-secondary-p[Mod - Happy Thoughts]word/ As has already been said - the faster you learn the theory, the faster you'll progress. CAP413 is definitely a good start, the first couple of parts of chapter 2 has the basics and then skip to chapter 4 for the aerodrome section. I'd also have a read of: http://www.vatsim-uk.co.uk/becoming-a-controller/ which will give you some more information on how to get going in the UK. Welcome to the UK! Kieran Hardern Posted August 27, 2013 at 07:41 PM Posted August 27, 2013 at 07:41 PM Well done, allow me to suggest another docomeent for your reading list: http://www.vatsim-uk.co.uk/download/info/?downloadID=00098 Section 3 will be particularly useful. Don't worry if you don't understand much of the TWR stuff just yet, but this will be helpful for EGLC_GND.

Andrew Newman 1255387 Posted August 27, 2013 at 09:39 PM Author Posted August 27, 2013 at 09:39 PM Thanks a dozen pal, reading that now. Just a quickie, any information on how to bring up the airport in Euroscope, everything i've tried has failed thus far. Regards, Andy. Kieran Hardern Posted August 28, 2013 at 02:00 PM Posted August 28, 2013 at 02:00 PM The easiest way is to use one of our controller packs, which are pre-made Euroscope setups that you can just open and use. In your case, the SERTS (South East RTS) Controller Pack is the one to chose. That includes Gatwick, Thames (Biggin and London City), and Solent (Southampton and Bournemouth) airfields. http://www.vatsim-uk.co.uk/download/info/?downloadID=00151 Our download centre is very handy for finding things you need - there's a category for the Euroscope packs. If you'd prefer to set things up yourself, or are just interested anyway, then you can always give it a try using this guide: http://www.euroscope.hu/Docs/EuroScope_in_30_minutes.pdf and the London FIR sector file: http://www.vatsim-uk.co.uk/download/info/?downloadID=00094 Also, our alternate login now works on our forums too (rolled out about an hour after I posted before) - so you should be able to get further help there. I notice you're ahead of me there as you've already made an account. Look forward to seeing you in TeamSpeak/controlling. Welcome once again.
