Hi,

i'm having problems with the sound using the configuration in the subject. When connected to VATSIM and listen to a frequency, the sound/voices come with interruptions. As you can imagine makes the training impossible :S

Notes: I can hear other Euroscope sounds (like when entering the program), so i have sound.

My configuration:

- MacBook Air with processor 1.7 Mhz Intel Core i5, 4Gb memory and Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 M, graphics card running with MAC OS X Lion 10.7.5

- Euroscope 3.1d

- Wine 1.6 (stable)

Any more info you could need from my configuration, just tell me. ANY help is welcome.

Thank you!

It may not be of much [Mod - Happy Thoughts]istance, but this subject was raised previously in now-lost forum postings of the past year or two.

ES runs flawlessly under Bootcamp/W7 on Mac hardware, but I recall reports of sound problems using not only Wine, but virtualization software such as Fusion and Parallels. All but Wine require a full Windows installation in any case. If ES doesn't work under commercially available VM software, it seems unlikely that it will work using Wine.

So Bootcamp is the road to reliable ES (and VRC) usage on the Mac, at the cost of complexity and a Windows license.

Hope this helps a bit,

John

One of the ZBW guys runs VRC under Wine without any problems, according to his thread here:

His post doesn't specifically say that sound is working fine, so it may be that he hasn't fully tested sound yet, but maybe you could contact him for [Mod - Happy Thoughts]istance.

Hi,

I've been using ES with Wine with Linux for a while and it works pretty well.

Recently I had to deal with a Macbook pro, and I ran into the voice problem...

What I did is going to VirtualBox, with a light WinXP installed into it.

To have a decent voice com I had to define my USB headset as the default one in the mac preferences and then use the default device in Windows. Using the USB headset directly in VirtualBox (bridging to Windows) was catastrophic.

There is still an issue with the USB headset, for some reason sometimes my voice would be distorted... using internal mac's mic is OK...

Recently I also found that I should lauch ES before plugging the headset in, otherwise sounds would be "stuck" somewhere until ES closure.

I'm now using this VM in my linux box and it works like a charm, a lot better than the mac.

Anyway, as said previously, Bootcamp is probably the best way to go.

Hi all,

thanks for your responses. I start using ES under virtualbox/W7 and that solved my previous problem with the voice being interrupted. That's right, you read it correctly. Now i have a problem under this new configuration.

I can listen to a frequency for some time but at some point i stop listening. Need to do 'Leave the Frequency' and again 'Listen Frequency' to solve the problem.

Just created a new topic about that: viewtopic.php?f=71&t=62466

Any idea what can be?

Thanks again!
