Oleg Shiryayev 956202 Posted February 3, 2006 at 10:28 PM Posted February 3, 2006 at 10:28 PM Sorry, but I did not find this info anywhere. I have alll software installed and working. I have a question about how to contact ATC when entering a controlled airspace. For example, I start an IFR flight from KCVG to KJFK. There is no control at KCVG and Indianapolis center (under which KCVG is). There is ATC at Cleveland center, and my flightplan goes through its airspace. I set up my squawk to 2200, and use Unicom while in uncontrolled airspace leaving KCVG. I'm cruising at FL350, how do I know when I should contact Cleveland center? Is there a way to tell when I enter its airspace, or should the controller contact me in the first place? Thanks in advance! I apologize for this stupid newbie question, just trying to not offend anyone whiie flying online. Oleg.
Nicholas Bartolotta 912967 Posted February 3, 2006 at 10:38 PM Posted February 3, 2006 at 10:38 PM 99% of the time ([Mod - Happy Thoughts]uming the controller isn't really busy) they will send you a private message saying ~ "Please contact me on ###.##" If not though, I use this map as a general referance... Steve Ogrodowski 876322 Posted February 4, 2006 at 03:41 AM Posted February 4, 2006 at 03:41 AM Yeah, when you approach a controller's airspace, they will usually* see you (it's VATSIM, always connected), and they will use a function to contact you. *There sometimes are server splits....and everyone has trouble seeing some people. Paul Bakeman 937181 Posted February 4, 2006 at 02:12 PM Posted February 4, 2006 at 02:12 PM I usually will have Servinfo running, and when I think I must be getting close the airspace boundary, I just maximize it, load the VATSIM information from the server, and my airplane position will be shown at it's current location. When I get reasonably close, say within 20 nm of the controller's airspace, I just call him up with my position in relation to a nearby VOR and my cruising altitiude. I just did this yesterday on a flight from KATL to KMEM, where there was nobody on-line at ATL. Works for me!! Paul
