VATSIM and aviation related Ruby libraries

This is a re-post of a topic that got lost in the big forum boom of 2013.

 

These are links to several ruby libraries / rails engines that are used to power some vACC website modules as well as the VATEUD API and website. Judging by the combined download numbers (40 000+), they might prove useful and time saving for other Ruby developers around here.

 

• vatsim_online: a Ruby gem for selectively pulling, parsing and displaying Vatsim online stations data. Essentially it's a "Who's online" library, capable of displaying online ATC and/or pilots for given airports, areas or globally and to filter by callsign. Stations are returned as objects, exposing a rich set of attributes. Vatsim data is pulled on preset intervals and cached locally to avoid flooding the servers.

• gcmapper: easily generate Great Circle maps between 2 or more airports. The gem provides an API for constructing the image URLs, the maps themselves are pulled from gcmap.com.

• notams: retrieves the currently active NOTAMs for an airport or FIR. Supports multiple airports/regions in one request. Pulls data from FAA website.

• vatsim_metar: Pulls and returns as a string the latest VATSIM metar for a particular station (ICAO code).

• airdata: Rails engine for adding aviation related models and data to your web application

• vatbook: Ruby API to the Vatbook service for reading and parsing Vatsim pilot and ATC bookings. Booking query requests are made by FIR and individual bookings are returned as objects, exposing a rich set of attributes. Support for excluding enroute pilot bookings. Support for pulling pilot and atc bookings separately or as a combined hash.
