Oliver Rhodes Posted January 13, 2014 at 07:20 AM Posted January 13, 2014 at 07:20 AM Hello, I recently took my third listening "flight", to listen to ATC communications. I found that a Twitch stream was taking place at London City, so went there, expecting a good amount of ATC. I filed a flight plan, and loaded up my aircraft. I then asked on UNICOM (EGLC had no ATC controllers on-line) if my position was okay. After about 30 minutes, a fleet of other aircraft arrived, but appeared to dance around the taxiway and runway, including when an aircraft was on short final! My question is this, Have I installed my VATSIM client (FSInn) correctly? My worry is that once I'm established on VATSIM, and I can do flights, I might see an aircraft on the runway, go-around, and cause annoyance for the controller, because the aircraft is actually parked at a gate. Thanks for your help in advance. Happy Flying! Yours Faithfully, Oliver Rhodes Oliver Rhodes ATC Training Manager Training Department
Duarte Folgado 1106197 Posted January 13, 2014 at 10:28 AM Posted January 13, 2014 at 10:28 AM Hi Oliver, Welcome to VATSIM. I'm afraid I didn't completely understood the issue after reading your post but sometimes (speaking much more Squawkbox related because that's what I use) you can see the aircraft on final and then in like a millisecond gap he returns a few feet backwards and continue. This is in somehow related with the frequency of plane position reports that the client is using. In FSinn if I remember correctly is under Peer-to-Peer tab In your case I would try again on an airport that has traffic on ground (You can use vRoute, Servinfo or VatSpy application for example) and see if they stay at the same position and behaves correctly. Also make sure you AI traffic slider is set to 0 while flying in VATSIM (this probably is automatically done by the client software). Finally I also suggest that you visit VATUK site (http://www.vatsim-uk.co.uk/) and also enroll the VATUK Pilot Training (http://www.vatsim-uk.co.uk/pilot-training/) where you can have all the help needed on the very firsts steps with the network.
