Svilen Vassilev Posted February 14, 2014 at 10:12 AM Posted February 14, 2014 at 10:12 AM Adieu. I have too grieved a heart to take a tedious leave. William Shakespeare, The Merchant of Venice, Act 2, Scene 7 Dear all, The time has come for me to resign my VATEUD7 position. It's been an interesting and useful experience, hopefully also beneficial in some ways for the division and its vACCs and individual members. It's been a lot of water under the bridge for my tenure. Here it is in numbers: 379 days, 9 apps, 293 tasks, 485 code commits, 650 dev hours, 431 emails and more voice meetings than I could count For most of that time, I was part of the VATEUD Dream Team and it was a privilege serving on it. A special mention goes to George Condes, whose vision, drive and input had a profound direct effect on my work and results. I'm leaving the EUD technical department in much better shape, than I got it: with some structure, strategy and standards built into it. Perfection, or even decency, are a movable horizon, especially on the tech side: it's a never ending process of self-transcendence. I have good hope that there will be a new Technical Director, who will be more than capable of picking up the slack and moving forward. I do intend, if allowed, as an external independent contributor, to maintain the codebase of my EUD apps (bugfixes and security updates) and probably further develop them on a time and mood permitting basis, although I can't make any promises or commitments. However 4 of our main apps, including the new website are now open-sourced so there's no further strong dependency on my involvement and any community member can contribute to them in the future without any formalities, bureaucracy overhead or staff affiliation requirements. This process ultimately ensures better code quality and stronger security. Finally, I would like to apologize to the people and tasks I've neglected over the course of my tenure. There have been emails I didn't respond to or delayed, conversations and ideas I didn't follow up as I probably should have. It's unfortunately inevitable, especially on a volunteer position: we need to triage, prioritize and focus, in order to make the most of our time and ideas. I wish all my former, current and future EUD staff colleagues all the best in their work, and to the vACC staff and individual members - keep going: you're the ones that make this network tick. Here's to you! Svilen C1/P2 | vaccbih.info
