Rich Heimlich Posted February 28, 2014 at 12:27 AM Posted February 28, 2014 at 12:27 AM I am pretty much reliably unable to finish a flying session. The log file in each case where X-Plane 10.25 (64bit) crashes tells me: --=={This application has crashed because of the plugin: XSquawkBox}==-- I also notice I have lots of issues with the microphone. Sometimes its selected properly. Other times it's not. Sometimes it offers multiple microphone input choices, other times it doesn't. (Asus Maximus VI Hero motherboard with RealTek audio). Many times as well I'm told by controllers that I'm unreadable. When I do a mic check everything comes back as noise. Meanwhile, I can jump into Win7 and record crystal clear audio without touching anything. I'm to a point now where I feel apprehensive about flying on VATSIM at all for fear of crashing. Three straight attempts to fly from KPHL to KDCA have ended in aborted flights with a crash.
Mike Burke 1145825 Posted February 28, 2014 at 05:55 AM Posted February 28, 2014 at 05:55 AM One thing I've tried with success is to load xsb up in 32-bit and save all of my audio settings / preferences, then quit out and restart in 64-bit. I had issues with setting sound devices and levels and getting them to save in 64-bit. Give that a shot.

Hesham Goma 1283345 Posted March 3, 2014 at 03:21 AM Posted March 3, 2014 at 03:21 AM I had the same audio issue. When doing the mic check everything would come back as noise. I am using a USB headset (Plantronics 478). The solution for me was to make sure that the headset mic is the only active recording device before starting x-plane. These are the steps I followed: - Plug in the headset but do not start x-plane yet. - Right click on the speaker icon in the system tray and select "recording devices". - If there is more than one device showing (for example the internal mic, and the headset mic), right click on the other devices and select "disable". So the headset mic is the only active device (and the default one). - Right click on the headset mic device and select "properties" - Go to the third tab labeled "levels". Set the level to 100. If "microphone boost" is showing, select 20 db. - Now start x-plane and do the mic test in xsquawkbox. If this fix works, you should no longer hear noise. - If you find the replay of your voice is too loud or has an echo, go back to "levels" and reduce the value from 100. I hope this fix works for you.
Rich Heimlich Posted March 3, 2014 at 08:36 PM Author Posted March 3, 2014 at 08:36 PM It seems, unlike past experience, that the headset MUST be plugged in when xSB is started (X-Plane is started). I often would just plug it in after the fact with FSX and SB3. Even though it APPEARS to work, it simply doesn't. At least this is something I can handle as a work-around but there has to be a cleaner way for them to code this.
