First time set up issues

I have just installed X-squarkbox for the 64bit version of Windows and I am trying to set up the audio. I use a USB stereo headset with built in microphone but when I launch xplane with the headset connected it crashes to desktop. It does not crash to desktop with the headset unplugged.

 

So I tried it a different way by starting xplane then plugged in the headset and it does not crash until I try and set up the audio from the XSB plug in and as soon as I select the microphone as my audio input device it crashes.

 

I have set up the headset in windows with no issues so can anyone help me??

BTW I am using Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.
