Lance Williams Posted July 9, 2014 at 02:40 PM Posted July 9, 2014 at 02:40 PM (edited) All VATSIM members are invited to join us for our next VF&R Saturday Adventure, which takes us into ORBX Southern Alaska and Pacific Fjords land for some very scenic flying and interesting airports. Departing Skagway (PAGY) at 23:00 Zulu (7:00 PM EDT), we'll make a quick touch and go at Hains (PAHN) before heading south south into Tong[Mod - Happy Thoughts] Fjords (this is an available addon that is ORBX quality, but not technically an ORBX Product. You can get it here if interested: http://secure.simmarket.com/fsaddon-tong[Mod - Happy Thoughts]-fjords-x.phtml). We end the adventure in ORBX Pacific Fjords land (Canada EH!) in Terrace, CA (CYXT). This is a bit of an unusual VF&R Saturday, considering we probably won't see aircraft off-roading or doing any face plants, as most stops offer plenty of runway for just about any aircraft. However, it was about time we explored this beautiful part of the world this week. I'll be in the Duke BE60, Please feel free to fly anything that twill cruise at about 160 - 200 over the ground. There are a total of eight (8) stops on this adventure with most fields offering runways longer than 4,000 feet (I know, I know... it's going to be a cake walk this week, LOL). Lance Williams Posted July 9, 2014 at 05:53 PM Author Posted July 9, 2014 at 05:53 PM Please leave the term "Pro" out of the discussion for these... Oh and we always end up breaking something one way or the other. That airport may just expedite that though, LOL! Thank you, Lance W. Steve Kirks 1252923 Posted July 9, 2014 at 06:02 PM Posted July 9, 2014 at 06:02 PM I called my guy in Anchorage and he's got me lined up for their Pilatus PC-12. I had to promise him a bunch of dried moose meat and a case of Coors to get it ferried over to Skagway. When I told him what we were doing he said "why on earth would you want to go to Kake?" and the best answer I could give him was "because it's there". Lance Williams Posted July 9, 2014 at 06:13 PM Author Posted July 9, 2014 at 06:13 PM Somebody was drawing lines and realized, "Well [Mod - lovely stuff], looks like this route means a stop at PAFE." Oh well. Too late to change the whole route now. Thank you, Lance W. Steve Kirks 1252923 Posted July 10, 2014 at 02:49 PM Posted July 10, 2014 at 02:49 PM Flew the first two legs in the Pilatus last night and energy management was tough. Might fallback to the Lancair for this one. If I have time, I'm also thinking of pulling a couple of the airports into ADE and modify the AFCADs to current. Anyone else have ideas on scenery updates? Lance Williams Posted July 10, 2014 at 03:08 PM Author Posted July 10, 2014 at 03:08 PM Hey! No cheating by scouting the fields, LOL! No idea on Scenery, as I'll be using ORBX. Guess I'm not much help, am I? Oh and don't worry about speed too much. If you are slower than others, you won't fall all that far back anyway. I'll most likely cruise at a very economical setting in my Duke (meaning 160-170 over the ground). We always end up landing at each field and waiting for everyone to land before heading to the next stop anyway. That means, the fast guys get to watch the show as the slower ones come in.
