Brendan Chen 943434 Posted March 4, 2006 at 03:16 AM Posted March 4, 2006 at 03:16 AM G'day all: I have just recently got hold of the 744. I have read the manuals which came with it, and specially the fuel planning stage of the Flight planning. I could never get enought fuel for a long hual flight. It always starts off fine but after 3 or 4 hours the FMC displays "Insufficient Fuel" and if I refer back to one of the charts, it does support the FMC's warning... This happens to me everytime in a long haul flight (Over 10 hour flight which I have only really completed 2). (you might see this in other forums from me, because I am desperate to find out why) Could someone please tell me why this happens and what I could do to resolve it please, thank you, any help would be great thanks. Faruk Baran 819422 Posted March 13, 2006 at 02:36 PM Posted March 13, 2006 at 02:36 PM Hi Brendan, I strongly recommend you to go through the docomeentation about CRUISE and FUEL PLANNING. And be shure to refuel the 747-400 PMDG via PMDG/Options/Fuel - Menu of your FS and NOT in the Aircraft/Fuel section... Fly safely Faruk
Trent Hopkinson Posted March 13, 2006 at 10:58 PM Posted March 13, 2006 at 10:58 PM and always add a reserve of at the very least one hour. In the PMDG I usually plan time based rather than distance based, often taking specific airline schedules into account, and then adding a good hour and a bit reserve, sometimes as much as 2 hours reserve.; Trent Hopkinson YMML. www.youtube.com/musicalaviator WorldFlight 2002,2008,2009, 2011, 2012, 2013 & 2015
Roy Watkin 856798 Posted May 4, 2006 at 04:17 PM Posted May 4, 2006 at 04:17 PM Hi I also fly the PMDG 747 and use the fuel planner, but i also reduce all the VNAV air speeds in the FMC to the ones stated in the manual under the fuel calculations section. Or just load your flightplan into the FMC goto the PROG on the FMC to see want fuel you will have on landing. It should be dependant on what you also put in as the reserves in your FMC, 19.0 for internal flights and 24.0 for trans atlantic flights. I hope this will help. Edward Avarl 956094 Posted May 19, 2006 at 10:48 PM Posted May 19, 2006 at 10:48 PM Hi I fly the PMDG 737 800. I know the fuel system in mine is a lot simpler but I sometimes get the same message especially in vnav mode a slight reduction in mach number and it goes away. I can only think headwinds or something like that screw up the thrust settings and fuel burn. I allways add a bit extra now as well but it can still show up. good luck in your search
