Michael Shamash 1281144 Posted August 20, 2014 at 12:02 AM Posted August 20, 2014 at 12:02 AM Hi All, Just wondering if we can change the default (what seems to be a system default voice) voice in vATIS to Starcaster if we have the audio files for each word, like 'ZULU', 'APPROACH', etc... Let me know how this can be done, Thanks, Mike Michael Shamash Toronto FIR Webmaster ------------------------- Toronto Flight Information Region [email protected] | http://www.czyz.ca Like us or Follow us on Facebook and Twitter
Justin Shannon Posted August 20, 2014 at 12:05 AM Posted August 20, 2014 at 12:05 AM No, that wouldn't be possible because vATIS utilizes a text to speech synthesizer to say each word, rather than rely on pre-recorded audio files to piece together an ATIS. Tim Roden 987596 Posted August 20, 2014 at 02:56 AM Posted August 20, 2014 at 02:56 AM Was wondering if you could allow us to record our own voice instead of the synthesizer reading the text. The biggest complaint I got tonight was it didn't sound natural. Tim Roden ZAN C3

If you want to do that, use the built in ATIS recorder. vATIS sounds as good or better than any real world AWOS/D-ATIS. Tim Roden 987596 Posted August 20, 2014 at 03:01 AM Posted August 20, 2014 at 03:01 AM The "Built in" ATIS is not available on vStars. This will have to do. BTW, I think this is a Cadillac of a program. Well thought through. Tim Roden ZAN C3

The biggest complaint I got tonight was it didn't sound natural. It's not supposed to sound natural (but it works and sure beats recording one manually!) because it was built to mimic the real world D-ATIS. Have a listen to JFK's or ATL's ATIS and you'll see what I mean: http://www.liveatc.net/flisten.php?mount=kjfk_atis&icao=kjfk http://www.liveatc.net/flisten.php?mount=katl_atis_arr&icao=katl Controller (C3), Los Angeles ARTCC Developer: xPilot, vATIS
