Jeff Armstrong 930061 Posted March 7, 2006 at 03:57 PM Posted March 7, 2006 at 03:57 PM Hi all, I keep seeing and hearing about the TGIF. I checked the VATSIM fly in Calendar and cannot find reference to this. Where is this located? I would like to coordinate a VA event around the TGIF for max ATC coverage. Thanks and Regards Jeff WWA9684
Lance Williams Posted March 7, 2006 at 04:11 PM Posted March 7, 2006 at 04:11 PM TGIF is a VA event, hosted by Virtual Continental Airlines. You can see the TGIF web site here: http://vcair.com/events/tgif_main.php Thank you, Lance W. Jeff Thomas Posted March 7, 2006 at 11:41 PM Posted March 7, 2006 at 11:41 PM I agree with Jeff A. This is such a HUGE impacting event, week after week, it SHOULD be posted on the VATUSA events page every week. Also, not only Continental VA is involved. MANY others join in the fun. Jeff Armstrong 930061 Posted March 8, 2006 at 04:52 PM Author Posted March 8, 2006 at 04:52 PM Lance and Richard, Thanks for getting this on the calendar and since TGIF happens on VATSIM - this is not an exclusive event - right? I would like to recommend to my VA's on-line operations manager that we participate and do some planning around this event. Being new to VATSIM and on-line flying in general, I really do not want to step on any (or to many) toes. How would this be viewed? Hijacking the event? Please advise, I'm just looking for ways to help get my VA more active on Vatsim... Jeff
Lance Williams Posted March 8, 2006 at 06:49 PM Posted March 8, 2006 at 06:49 PM That's entirely up to you. Since VATSIM is for us all, each and every event in it's own right is open to all VATSIM members. You will never be denied clearance to fly to an airport simply because there is another VA's event taking place there. With that said, If it were me in your shoes, I might consider hosting my VA's event in one of the ARTCC's adjoining the TGIF event. The reason I would take this approach is because TGIF attracts so much traffic to each facility it lands at that it's almost overwhelming and sometimes generates more traffic than that particular airport does in the real-world which isn't a good thing I'm afraid. So If I had a new VA or any other VA not directly involved with TGIF, I would plan events to other ARTCC's surrounding the ARTCC hosting TGIF that night. You are of course free to do whatever you wish though. Thank you, Lance W. Kiel McGowan 813486 Posted March 8, 2006 at 07:33 PM Posted March 8, 2006 at 07:33 PM I would do a fly out at the airport with the flyin from TGIF....to one of the ARTCC's surrounding it that are usually fully staffed for the aircraft inbound to the other destination. Get enough people flying out at the same time TGIF is coming in and we will quickly hit real world levels for departures and arrivals not just arrivals (like TGIF just about does now). Thats the only way I could see TGIF becoming even more insane then it already is
Jeff Armstrong 930061 Posted March 9, 2006 at 01:54 AM Author Posted March 9, 2006 at 01:54 AM Lance and Kiel, Thanks for the ideas. Perfect and right on the money. I really like Kiell's idea, in an evil kind of way - . As stated before, I'm new to this, but am so impressed with the difference in the virtual flying experience when flying on-line. Kudo's to all the controllers!!! Regards Jeff
