Jeff Turner Posted March 7, 2006 at 10:24 PM Posted March 7, 2006 at 10:24 PM (edited) I'm guessing that you all have heard from your ATM's and TA's by now about the new VATUSA position endorsements. For those that haven't, this will replace the current VATUSA Voice Policy that is in place and will be effective as of 13 March along with the VATSIM Code of Conduct. In addition to this policy, as of 13 March, VATUSA will no longer use the "V" in it's callsigns to signify that a controller is using voice. Any questions can be directed to me at vatusa1@vatusa (dot) org Voice use Voice is the primary means of communication for VATSIM. Students who are undergoing training while being monitored by an instructor or mentor may use voice in accordance with their facilities training program. Voice as well as text requires practice and both are essential to a good controller. Position Endorsements A position endorsement may be granted to student-1 level controller or above by p[Mod - Happy Thoughts]ing a facility issued written test with a score of 80% or better and an "over the shoulder" checkout to verify ones ability in using voice, text, ASRC, or any other authorized ATC Client. Proper phraseology is important for both voice and text. Controllers may have to deal with a mixture of voice and text that is why it's important that a student have a good foundation of experience, general ATC knowledge, and an understanding of proper procedures and controller instructions. Rating Endorsements/Advancements The current procedures for rating advancement i.e.: Student to Senior Student are still applicable except that a controller no longer needs to take a voice certification exam or is required to have a VATUSA voice endorsement as the OTS that is given by the Training Administration or his/her designees validates the voice usage. Jason Herman 911755 Posted March 7, 2006 at 10:36 PM Posted March 7, 2006 at 10:36 PM Hi Jeff, Will this mean then from March 13 onward, instead of BOS_V_APP, only BOS_APP would be used as the proper callsign? I'm [Mod - Happy Thoughts]uming we can still use 1 or 2 letters/numbers in the middle (per facility/ARTCC SOP), just not V [ie: BOS_S_APP, CLE_64_CTR]. So, if you are MCO_4W_APP that's all you use... If you are Denver Center, you use DEN_CTR... Boston Approach is BOS_APP or whatever your ATM decides to call it. No more of DEN_V_CTR, BOS_V_CTR, SEA_V_CTR, etc as of 13 March. Jeff "JU" Turner US Army Retired http://www.skyblueradio.com
