VASOPS system improvements

The new VATSIM VA System is a huge leap forward over the previous linksmanager.com setup and I am very much grateful to those who took the time to create it and migrate the data across. However, I thought it would be a good idea for members to discuss future upgrades to the VASOPS system, so that improvements may be implemented as and when resources are available.

 

It seems the search function only searches by airline name at present, I think it could be much more useful if it searched through the descriptions too.

 

I also think the 200 character limit for the description field is a little too restrictive, considering most VAs would want to say what aircraft they flew and their main hubs, and then a little bit about their ethos. Obviously I appreciate the need to be concise in a directory context so I'm not suggesting the limit is increased to more than 400 characters (equivalent of about 65 words), but equally there needs to be enough information for users to get a basic understanding of the VA's operations.

Regarding your suggestion about the search function, great idea. This has now been implemented and is live.

 

I'll leave the character description limit up to Roger and Romano to decide if that should be changed. If they give me the nod I can go ahead and up that limit.

Wow Colin, less than 24 hours from suggestion to full implementation! I've just tried it out using airport names and aircraft types and it works brilliantly, thank you.
