Edward David 954537 Posted January 27, 2015 at 05:46 PM Posted January 27, 2015 at 05:46 PM I am getting back into flying. I have FSX Deluxe which I flew for a number of years on Windows XP. Now have a new computer which is Windows 8.1 and 64 bit. I had a hard time installing FSX but got it going in compatibility mode (which said it was using "Windows Vista"). My question is whether I should just get FSX Steam...... is it better for Windows 8.1 and for 64 bit?? Also, I [Mod - Happy Thoughts]ume it will integrate with VATSIM controllers, etc... Thanks, Ed
Ernesto Alvarez 818262 Posted January 27, 2015 at 09:54 PM Posted January 27, 2015 at 09:54 PM i cant say regarding the steam edition and windows 8.1, supposedly they did some fixes to it to make it more compatible with 8.1. as far as integration with VATSIM, nope its not integrated in any way with the network. they use the Steam network for multiplayer. you can install the VATSIM clients to connect to VATSIM though
Edward David 954537 Posted January 29, 2015 at 03:18 AM Posted January 29, 2015 at 03:18 AM OK; it sounds like I should just stay with FSX as it is now installed. My next question is whether I need something else for the Delux edition I have........ I read of an "acceleration" package and also Service Pack 2 (I think). Do I need these and if so where do I get the them? Thanks, Ed
Ernesto Alvarez 818262 Posted January 29, 2015 at 03:34 AM Posted January 29, 2015 at 03:34 AM acceleration you dont really need. SP2 you can download free from the microsoft website http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=204fee1e-f8de-4b21-9a32-5a41a3e27ff0 some addons may require SP1 or SP2. the VATSIM clients especially

Now that I think of it I might have gotten the SP2 years ago.......is there an easy way to check whether I already have it installed??
