Aleksi Laine Posted January 7, 2015 at 09:15 PM Posted January 7, 2015 at 09:15 PM Hello, I'm thinking of transitioning to P3D sometime this year, and with that transition I'd like to get myself a higher-end PC. This time I'm trying to do this properly, giving it some thought and asking for advise from those more experienced than me. So, I'm currently considering cyberpowersystem.co.uk. Seems like a good quality site for ordering custom built PCs with delivery to Finland. I might still look into building the PC myself, but that would naturally be a little more h[Mod - Happy Thoughts]le, and cyberpower has a lot of additional services that would be difficult for me to do myself, eg. noise reduction techniques. Here are the parts I'm currently considering. I would love to hear some opinions. Also there are a couple of additional questions at the end. Specs: Case - Cooler Master Cosmos SE (with 3 additional Fans) CPU - i7-4790K Quad Core 4.00GHz, 8MB Cache (With overclocking service 10-20% up in speed, because I'm lazy and don't want to accidentally destroy the CPU myself) Motherboard - ASUS Z97-A RAM - HyperX Savage 8GB 2133MHz GPU - GeForce GTX 970 4GB PSU - Corsair 600 Watts CX600 Gaming Power Supply HDD - 1TB SATA-III 7200RPM SSD - Crucial MX100 256GBx2 in RAID 0 (512GB) OS - Windows 7 Pro 64-bit CPU cooler would be a Corsair H55 liquid cooler with 120mm fan. On top of these there are little things like their sound absorbing foam, anti-vibration fan mounts, sound muffling case for the PSU, and hard drive coolers. I'm probably paying more for these gadgets than what they're worth, but I need it to be silentish. Please comment honestly if you think something is unnecessary or if there are bottlenecks or poor parts in the config. My question #1: What if I had Windows installed on the HDD and left the SSD for P3D only? I want as little precious SSD space wasted as possible, and I don't mind if boot up takes a little longer. My concern is that it could slow all applications, if the OS was on a HDD. After all, don't at least most applications discuss with the OS to some extent? In short, would P3D work faster if both Windows and P3D were on an SSD, or could I have Windows on an HDD without effect to P3D? Question #2: Am I correct that two SSDs in RAID 0 config work faster than one? So if I have two 256GBs in RAID 0, they're faster than one 512GB? There's practically no difference in the cost. All opinions and answers and whatnots are greatly appreciated Thank you, Aleksi Aleksi Laine Vatsim-Scandinavia S3 Controller
