Dave Paige 925700 Posted January 29, 2015 at 04:16 PM Posted January 29, 2015 at 04:16 PM In just the last few weeks or so I am no longer able to complete a flight on VATSIM without the SIM freezing mid-flight. I am bringing this up here because I almost exclusively fly the NGX and I know there are some very smart folks here in this community. The only recent addition to my FSX installation is the A2A C182T. My rig is an HP Z800 (dual quad core) with 16GB RAM and a GTX 780 NVidia card. I have very little addon scenery installed so I don't suspect VAS issues at all. And, I should point out, I can fly on the Pilot Edge network for hours with no issues. The "freeze" almost always happens well into the flight, usually after reaching cruise. All aircraft motion stops, no mouse pointer, no control via the joystick. Task manager shows that FSX is "not responding" and I have to force quit. This happens with both vPilot and Squawkbox 4 clients. I googled the issue and it seems that it was a fairly common issue in the 2008 time frame as most of the posts about it in various forums are from about that time. However, I found no threads that had a clear cause of the problem or a solution. Looking for any ideas short of a complete reinstall of FSX which I will only do as a last resort. Thanks in advance. Board of Governors Tim Barber Posted January 30, 2015 at 03:00 AM Board of Governors Posted January 30, 2015 at 03:00 AM Hi Dave, I have had these symptoms twice in the past...all of a sudden, for no reason application hangs. Like you, no software changes. In both cases for me the problem was hardware. Once was a bad memory dimm, the other required a new video card. Running memtest86 found the problem for me. Dave Paige 925700 Posted January 30, 2015 at 05:44 PM Author Posted January 30, 2015 at 05:44 PM Thanks for the suggestions guys. I changed the version of the UIautomationDLL that I had in the FSX root folder based on some older forum posts I found. Did a flight from RDU to ATL last night using vPilot with no problems. I am not yet convinced that the problem is fixed but that was the first time in four flights that I was able to complete a flight on VATSIM. Just to reiterate, I have no problem flying on the Pilot Edge network for hours at a time, so I don't think it's a hardware problem at this point. Seems to be a VATSIM client related issue.
